Spurs academy goalkeeper, Josh Oluwayemi, has revealed that Arsenal youngster Bukayo Sako is the toughest opponent he has faced in his career.

Oluwayemi came up against Saka for Spurs in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup against Arsenal in January 2019. He was in goal for the under-18s as they were defeated 5-2 in extra-time with Saka grabbing two goals on the day.

The Spurs man revealed that Buyako Saka was ‘exceptional’ but wanted to avoid giving the Arsenal youngster any satisfaction.

Oluwayemi told Team Nigeria UK on Instagram (transcribed by All Nigeria Soccer): “I don’t want to give him the satisfaction, but you know Bukayo Saka, he is too good. I can’t forget him.

“We told our defenders to watch out for him, we tried everything but he was exceptional.”

Oluwayemi is currently Spurs’ under-23 goalkeeper and featured five times in the Premier League 2 this season, keeping one clean sheet (Transfermarkt).

He made the step up to the development squad after serving as a first-choice goalkeeper in the Under-18s title-winning season in 2018/19.

At the age of 19 years-old, Oluwayemi has the potential to face even tougher opponents later in his career. However, Saka had broken into Arsenal’s first-team and cemented a regular starting spot before the season was suspended. Even though he was positioned at left-back, Saka still showed great quality going forward and one can see why he was named as Oluwayemi’s toughest opponent, especially at youth level.
