Relevo have claimed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is hesitating over making a move for Harry Kane this summer as he wants to wait until 2024 to sign Kylian Mbappe instead.
The report states that the Madrid hierarchy agreed when they met last week that they would push ahead with a move for Kane, who is thought to be Carlo Ancelotti’s number-one choice to replace Karim Benzema.
However, it is explained that doubts have started to emerge over recent days at the Spanish club over the feasibility of the operation, given the substantial fee that Daniel Levy would demand and the big contract they would have to hand to the England captain.
Madrid are keen on Mbappe over Harry Kane
It is explained that Perez is also keen to ensure that Mbappe wears the famous white shirt in 2024 and thus does not want to push through with any transfer that would jeopardise that operation.
Relevo claims that there is a feeling at the Santiago Bernabeu that Mbappe is not likely to exercise the option to renew his contract until 2025 with Paris Saint-Germain and that he could move to the La Liga giants as a free agent next summer.
However, Madrid would still have to pay the Frenchman a big signing-on fee and offer him a mega contract, which is why they are now having doubts over whether they should spend on Kane this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do expect Madrid to test the waters with an offer for Kane this summer but it is going to take a sizable bid of around £100m for them to even enter the negotiating table.
As things stand, the most likely scenario appears to be that Kane would stay at Spurs and allow his contract to run down but things could change quite quickly over the coming weeks.
