Tottenham Hotspur made tough work of picking up all three points against Southampton, having to come from two goals down to edge past the visitors with a late strike from Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Christian Eriksen had earlier scored twice and along with Roberto Soldado was our best player.   Spurs boss Tim Sherwood started the game by watching from the director’s box and had to come down pitch-side after seeing his side fall behind.

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood on his trips from the directors’ box to the dugout, told the BBC: “It was tiring, to be honest. It’s hard sitting up there but it is so much better because you can see the whole match. Once I made the substitutions it was time to come down and cheer the boys on from the side.

“I’ve had a pop at them in the past but they know how to react to criticism now and they know how to react to winning games. The rant I gave them after the Chelsea match did them no harm.”

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino said: “The first half we dominated but there’s refereeing decisions which did not go our way today and completely changed the dynamic of the game.

“We suffered after conceding the equaliser and the last goal made it very difficult for us. There’s nothing to complain about the third goal. We lost the game, more than Tottenham won the game, and they had a little help from the referee.”
