Tottenham have eased their interest in re-signing Gareth Bale although Fabio Paratici is still keeping tabs on the Welsh forward’s situation, according to BBC Sport.
The 32-year-old is set to become a free agent and halt a nine-year association with Real Madrid at the end of the month with his contract approaching its expiry.
Bale has since been linked with a third move back to Spurs this summer (Evening Standard) while Championship side Cardiff have been named as potential suitors (Telegraph) with the World Cup less than six months away.
However, BBC Sport has claimed Spurs have ‘cooled’ their interest in signing Bale for another spell, but have not completely distanced themselves from the picture.
Spurs’ managing director of football, Paratici is reportedly still keeping an eye on his status as he continues to play a role in preparing the north London squad ahead of the new season.
Bale joined Spurs in 2007 and went on to have a productive stint in north London before departing for the Spanish capital in what was a world record £85 million transfer fee at the time (Mirror).
A mixed stint at the Bernabeu filled with injury issues saw him return to Spurs on loan last season where he scored 16 goals (Transfermarkt) despite bouncing in and out of the side under Jose Mourinho.
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs are almost certainly going to be involved in the conversation if the chance to sign Bale arises as it has done.
It could be one last dance for him on a short-term deal with the World Cup approaching during next season, but it may not be something the club pushes for particularly if Antonio Conte doesn’t target him.
