Jack Wilshere does not think Gareth Bale would get a game under Mikel Arteta next season even if Arsenal signed the former Tottenham man.
Bale’s future is up in the air this summer, with the Welshman currently a free agent after running down his contract at Real Madrid.
While there were initially suggestions that he could return to Tottenham for a third spell (El Nacional) that possibility has subsequently been ruled out, with Antonio Conte’s men not thought to have any plans on re-signing the 32-year-old (The Telegraph).
A return to his hometown club Cardiff City has been mooted as a possibility for Bale as he aims to stay in good physical condition ahead of his first appearance in the World Cup with Wales this November (BBC Sport).
Bale has certainly put Arsenal to the sword several times in the past during his first spell at Spurs but Wilshere was asked whether he would like to see the Tottenham legend join the Gunners this summer.
The former Arsenal midfielder insisted that the four-time Champions League winner would only warm the bench at the Emirates.
Wilshere told talkSPORT: “I look at the players who would be playing in that position and they’re young players who have arguably been Arsenal’s best players over the past couple of years. So one, I don’t think he gets a game. And if he does, I think he’d be holding those players back.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I personally do not think Bale would consider joining any top club this summer as he would want to manage his body carefully and stay injury-free leading up to the World Cup. I can see the 32-year-old ending up at Cardiff City or potentially moving to the MLS on a short-term deal.
