The Athletic journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has claimed Tottenham and managing director Fabio Paratici are admirers of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The 22-year-old centre-back joined the Eagles last year and has become a hit at Selhurst Park in the heart of Patrick Vieira’s defence.
His reliable displays for Palace, which saw them finish 13th in the Premier League last season, earned him a call-up to the England squad and even his first cap this summer.
Guehi’s form has since attracted the attention of teams higher up the division with Tottenham named as one of the clubs monitoring his status (Daily Mail).
And Pitt-Brook has strengthened Spurs’ alleged interest in Guehi, adding that director Paratici is a fan of the former Chelsea player, but a deal to sign him this summer would be next to impossible to achieve.
Pitt-Brooke told Last Word On Spurs: “So Guehi they really like. Paratici definitely really likes Marc Guehi.
“There is a guy that is young, English, homegrown, plays for England and he can play along the backline. He’s a fantastic player and there’s a lot of upside to him.
“He has four years left on his Crystal Palace contract and Palace don’t get pushed around if someone wants their players, Palace have no incentive to sell him for anything short of crazy money, so the prospect of Spurs doing a deal with Palace for Guehi is basically zero.
“Maybe in two years’ time they can come back and negotiate, but I don’t think it’s possible, but they do definitely like him.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Guehi was excellent for Palace last season and it is no surprise that Spurs have taken such a liking to him this summer.
Spurs could do with some longer-term defensive reinforcements but Palace would likely demand a pretty big fee for him given he has only been with them for one season.
