Tottenham Hotspur are set to pursue Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the summer, but will face competition from London rivals Arsenal.
Guehi joined Palace in the summer of 2021 and has developed into one of the best English centre-backs in the Premier League since.
A fine debut season with the Eagles last year has been followed up with a decent sophomore campaign.
Though Palace have struggled at times this season, Guehi has maintained his own personal form across 36 games in all competitions so far this term (Transfermarkt).
Having made his England debut in March 2022, Guehi has gone on to earn three caps for the national side and was recalled to the squad this March (Transfermarkt).
Guehi has been mooted as the perfect fit for Spurs (Football Transfers), and a report from the Daily Mail last month suggested the North London club would reignite their interest in the 22-year-old.
Now, a report from the Evening Standard claims Tottenham will indeed be looking to make a move for Guehi, but will need to fight off Arsenal if they are to secure his signature.
It is thought both clubs are keen to “upgrade their defence” this summer and Spurs’ “long-standing interest” in Guehi could finally lead to a transfer.
The Lilywhites are expected to “overhaul” their defence at the end of the season, but Arsenal are also thought to be concerned over a “lack of squad depth” in the centre-back area and may see Guehi as the solution.
The report adds that Guehi’s former club Chelsea would be set for a “sizeable percentage” of any future sale, and will also be offered the chance to match any offer for the player.
However, the Blues are not believed to be in the market for another centre-back.
Spurs Web Opinion
I’m a big fan of Marc Guehi and I think he would be a great signing for Spurs.
He’s young, homegrown, has shown how accomplished he is for both club and country, and clearly has a bright future ahead of him.
