Journalist Dean Jones believes that Tottenham Hotspur have the upper hand over Arsenal in the race for Marc Guehi since the Lilywhites can guarantee regular starts to the Crystal Palace man.
Signing a centre-back is thought to be a priority for Spurs this summer, with The Daily Mail revealing a couple of days ago that Ange Postecoglou had given the green light to make a move for Harry Maguire.
The publication claimed that Tottenham had made checks on the Man Utd man and are now well-placed to snap him up should they decide to do so.
Another Premier League centre-half thought to be on Spurs’ radar is Guehi, with Football Transfers reporting last month that the Palace star’s versatility and his homegrown status make him an appealing option for the Lilywhites.
The report alleged that Tottenham were at the front of the queue for the England international but are only willing to bid £45m while the Eagles value the player at £65m.
Jones believes that the one advantage Spurs will have over other suitors for Guehi is that the 22-year-old would be prioritising regular football ahead of next summer’s European Championship.
Spurs may have upper hand in Marc Guehi race
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “The Harry Maguire interest is of course going to make headlines because of who he is and where his reputation is right now, but he is not the only option out there by any means.
“One of the other Premier League ones we should expect them to thoroughly look into is that of Marc Guehi.
“He is also admired by Arsenal, but Spurs might have the edge on them in terms of being able to offer regular first-team football, which is going to be vital in a season that leads into the European Championship as he will aim to be part of that England squad.”

While Guehi would be considerably more expensive than Maguire, paying around £60m for the Palace star would still represent better value for money, given that he is only 22.
Geuhi is also much better suited to playing in a high line than the Man Utd star.
