Amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Brentford, Nottingham Forest have set a £40m asking price for their star player, Brennan Johnson.

Tottenham have successfully improved their squad already this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to put his own stamp on the team in his first season. But, there is still work to be done.

Spurs now have a new number-one goalkeeper, with Guglielmo Vicario replacing the club’s former captain, Hugo Lloris.

Micky van de Ven has been brought in to reinforce a defence which leaked 63 league goals last season, while another defender is also expected to come through the door before the transfer window closes (Football.London).

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites have strengthened in attack, with both James Maddison and Manor Solomon providing proven quality in forward areas. However, the loss of Harry Kane does leave Tottenham with a considerable void to fill.

On Spurs’ rumoured list of targets are wide players like Jeremy Doku (Independent) and Wilfried Gnonto (LondonWorld), and strikers such as Gift Orban (CaughtOffside) and Elye Wahi (Foot Mercato).

Brennan Johnson will cost £40m

Another name that has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time is Brennan Johnson. And now, the North London side knows exactly how much it will cost to secure his signature.

A report from the Independent claims Nottingham Forest have “set an initial price” of £40m for their star man. It is believed a number of clubs are looking to “step up their interest” as the transfer window comes to a close.

Brentford are known to have the “strongest interest” in the player and have the advantage of being able to offer him guaranteed first-team football. However, Forest are reluctant to sell to a team they seem to be a rival in terms of Premier League placings.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are thought to have “moved on” to Johnson after seeing a move for Michael Olise fall through. It is said that Spurs have “been trailing” the Forest star for longer and could use the funds from the sale of Harry Kane to bring him to Hotspur Way.

Spurs Web Opinion

Brennan Johnson is a great little player who would surely flourish in a team like Tottenham, but I’m just not sure he is the right player for what we need right now. I would rather see us sign an out-and-out striker like Gift Orban or Elye Wahi.
