Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Brentford are considering a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.
Bakayoko won several admirers since breaking into PSV’s starting eleven last season and the Belgian international has had a strong start to the new campaign.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon revealed on his Patreon on Saturday that Tottenham had sent scouts to the Ibrox to watch the 20-year-old in action in the Champions League qualifier against Rangers last week and that the Premier League side were considering a late move for the youngster.
Spurs’ interest in the winger was also backed up by Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, who told The Last Word on Spurs podcast on Sunday that the North Londoners are eyeing the PSV star as a potential alternative to Brennan Johnson.
Brentford could now enter the race for Bakayoko
If Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs could now have competition to contend with for Bakayoko’s services, with the journalist taking to social media to reveal that Brentford are eyeing a late move for the winger.
The Italian also added that Thomas Frank’s side are prioritising other wingers apart from Johnson, which could potentially hand Spurs a free run at the Forest star.
Spurs Web Opinion
The fact that us and Brentford are looking at many of the same players this summer is perhaps evidence that Tottenham are indeed using a more data-based approach to identifying transfer targets.
However, like Maddison, Johnson seems to be a personal favourite of Postecoglou, which is why I hope that Spurs are able to get a deal for the 22-year-old over the line, irrespective of how much the youngster costs.
