The Peterborough director of football, Barry Fry, has urged Tottenham Hotspur to snap up Ivan Toney in the summer transfer window, insisting that the Brentford striker is good enough to play for a team with Champions League ambitions.
Toney enjoyed two prolific seasons with Peterborough before making the step up from League One to the Championship last summer.
The striker has proved a brilliant acquisition for Brentford, having notched up 28 goals in 36 league appearances so far this season.
Peterborough chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, revealed last summer that former Tottenham manager David Pleat urged the North Londoners to snap up Toney last summer.
MacAnthony labelled Premier League clubs as ‘morons’ for allowing Brentford to swoop for the striker last summer.
Fry has now gone a step further and asserted that the Bees star would not just be a good back up for Kane but he would be a good replacement for the England captain should he leave Spurs in the summer.
He told Football Fancast: “In my opinion, if Harry Kane left Tottenham, he should be their top target.
He could go to clubs trying to compete to get into the Champions League next year and do a job, a brilliant job. No doubt in my mind whatsoever.”

There are many similarities between Toney and Ollie Watkins, with both players being relatively late developers. Like the Aston Villa striker, Toney seems to look better and better as he moves up the divisions and plays with more quality players. I certainly would not mind us swopping for the Brentford man as a potential back up to Kane in the summer.
