Graham Roberts has urged Tottenham to snap up Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer.
There remains a big question mark over Harry Kane’s future, with the striker reportedly on the radars of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
It has been claimed that Tottenham have compiled a list of potential replacements for Kane, which includes the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings.
While Roberts admitted that he is a fan of Watkins, he also suggested that the man who replaced the Aston Villa striker at the Brentford Community Stadium, Toney, could prove to be a smart acquisition for the Lilywhites.
Toney has netted a whopping 31 goals in his first season for Thomas Frank’s side, playing a key role in the club secure promotion to the Premier League.
Roberts insisted that there are plenty of players in the lower divisions like the 26-year-old who are capable of making the step up to the Premier League.
The legendary Spurs defender told Football Fancast: “There are players out there. What about Toney at Brentford?
“Watkins has done it, do you not think Toney can do it? But they don’t want to look that low, but he’s a Premier League player now.
“That’s what you’ve got to do, you’ve got to look at the lower-leagues, there are good players there.
“But the spine of your team has to be the best so you have to pay the best and everything else falls into place.”
