The Times have now claimed that Brentford are set to demand £80m for rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney.
Multiple publications have reported over the past few weeks that Tottenham are considering swooping for Toney as Harry Kane’s replacement, with the Lilywhites alleged to be eyeing a move for the Brentford star in January after he has served his ban (The Athletic).
However, Spurs are not the only club interested in the centre-forward, with Football Transfers reporting that Manchester United could challenge Spurs for the player’s signature in January.
Brentford put a mammoth price tag on Ivan Toney
The Times have revealed that the Bees will demand £80m for the England international’s services in January. It is explained that the West London club are resigned to losing Toney next year and are bracing themselves for multiple offers.
Sources close to the player have allegedly communicated that he believes that he is ready to make a step up to a top club, which is presented in the report as one of the possible reasons he is set to sign for the world-renowned agency Stellar.
The Times also assert that Arsenal could also challenge their North London rivals in their pursuit of Toney during the next transfer window.
Spurs Web Opinion
Toney will only have 18 months left on his contract at Brentford in January but the Kane sale sets a precedent.
With the Bees being tough negotiators, they might well demand £80m, given the paucity of top centre-forwards in the market.
There is also every indication that a bidding war would ensure for Toney’s signature, which is why I am not so sure that Tottenham would want to get involved.
