Speculation is mounting when it comes to Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney, and it is now thought the North London club will make a move for the prolific attacker in the January transfer window.
With a Harry Kane shaped hole in the Tottenham forward line, it is no surprise that Ange Postecoglou‘s side are being linked with a whole host of strikers of late.
Spurs have yet to replace the England captain, instead opting to utilise Richarlison in the central striker position so far this season. As things stand, the Lilywhites have coped fairly well without Kane, too.
We may only be three games into the new Premier League campaign, but Spurs are unbeaten so far and are impressing many with their attacking approach to the game.
With this in mind, there is a chance Tottenham could bide their time and sign a new striker in January instead of this current transfer window.
Will Ivan Toney sign for Tottenham?
If that is the case, the overwhelming favourite to join Tottenham is Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Spurs have long been admirers of the 27-year-old, and now sources at Football Insider have suggested the Londoners will make their move for the striker in the January transfer window.
This new report corroborates the idea that Brentford would demand £100m for their star man, but it is thought Tottenham will still “assess a potential January move for him.”
Toney is currently serving a ban from football for breaching the FA’s gambling rules, but will return to action in the middle of January.
Spurs have been watching “closely” as Toney produced impressive attacking returns last year, and he is expected to be “firmly on their radar again” when he is allowed to play again.
Spurs Web Opinion
If we don’t sign a new striker in the next few days, then making a move for Ivan Toney in January seems like a no-brainer. He would be the perfect replacement for Kane, is a proven goalscorer at this level, and would probably be open to the move.
