Fabrizio Romano has said that while a January exit is on the cards for rumoured Tottenham target, Ivan Toney, there is no clarity at the moment regarding the Brentford striker’s future.

Toney is currently serving an eight-month FA ban for breaching betting regulations, which will lapse in January.

Recently, several outlets have suggested that Spurs are eyeing a January move for the centre-forward, including The Times, who reported last week that the Lilywhites and Arsenal could battle it out for the centre-forward’s services when the transfer window reopens

Meanwhile, Football.London explained a few days ago that Toney’s decision to sign with CAA Stellar Sports might work to Tottenham’s advantage as the North London club has a good relationship with the agency.

The publication revealed that the agency represents Ben Davies and Fraser Forster, and also helped Spurs negotiate summer moves for Harry Winks and Joe Rodon to Leicester City and Leeds United, respectively.

Ivan Toney’s next destination is not yet known

However, Romano has now suggested that there is no indication that yet that Toney has made a decision on his future.

The journalist wrote on Substack: “Nothing is clear yet with regard to Ivan Toney’s future at Brentford and it will take time for some clarity on the issue to emerge. It will be discussed in November/December, so nothing concrete is happening right now as of this moment.

“To my knowledge, a January exit is possible, yes, but the question remains as to where he would go. It’s not the right time to decide on that point just yet.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not sure if Tottenham would get involved in a bidding war on Toney, Firstly, the club would have to break their transfer record to sign the 27-year-old.

Additionally, I do not see the England international as being an ideal fit for Postecoglou’s system. The Australian might prefer a slightly more mobile forward of the profile of Jonathan David, who can interchange with the other forward options.

I also do not think signing a centre-forward would be a priority for Spurs in January, particularly if Son Heung-min clicks in the number nine role.
