Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Jermain Defoe has returned to the club in a dual-purpose role.
The former striker returns to north London as a member of the academy coaching staff and also as a club ambassador.
Defoe scored 143 goals in 361 appearances for the club over two spells (transfermarkt) and will work alongside the current academy coaching setup to provide help to the Under-17 to Under-21 age categories.
Tottenham have a track record in helping former players to further their coaching career with Scott Parker and Ryan Mason two of the most recent ex-professionals.
Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has also been part of the Tottenham set-up since late last year, acting as a part-time coach and has also recently been reported to have been handed a full-time role (Daily Mail).
Tottenham’s current club ambassadors include Michael Dawson, Ledley King, as well as Gary Mabbutt and Ossie Ardiles.

It is great to see the club looking to bring back former players to help them progress their coaching careers and also in their ambassadorial roles where they interact with the local community and supporter clubs from around the world.
