Jermain Defoe has predicted that he would score 30-40 goals in a season if he played alongside Harry Kane.

Kane’s goal-scoring prowess is second to none, with the striker on course to break a whole host of all-time goal records.

The 29-year-old is just 16 goals short of Jimmy Greaves’ tally of 266 goals for Spurs and he needs 76 goals in the Premier League to overtake Alan Shearer as the competition’s all-time leading scorer.

In addition, Kane is also on course to obliterate Wayne Rooney’s record tally of 53 goals for England, with the Tottenham man already having 50 goals to his name in 71 international appearances.

However, apart from his goal scoring, Kane has increasingly showcased a different facet to his game over the last couple of years, often serving as Spurs’ creator-in-chief.

Not many midfielders in world football possess the vision and passing range of Harry Kane, and Defoe believes the Spurs academy graduate is up there with Kevin De Bruyne in terms of passing ability.

When asked which current midfielder he would like to play, the Tottenham legend told ESPN UK: “Kevin de Bruyne. I think if I played with him, I’d score 40 goals. Because, if your movement’s good, then you know you’ll get chances. His passing range is phenomenal.

“Him and Harry Kane. How Harry plays now, if I was at Tottenham with Harry now, I’d score 30-40 goals if I played every game. Their range of passing is phenomenal.”

Karim Benzema is the only other player in world football at the moment who combines unbelievable goal-scoring ability with an enviable passing range and vision, as Kane does.

However, one can argue that even Benzema was a late bloomer with respect to the latter and his goal-scoring record is not as impressive as Kane’s, despite the Frenchman playing in a better team and an inferior league than the Spurs star.
