Jermain Defoe has claimed that four teams in the Premier League are clearly ahead of the rest in terms of the quality of their squads
The Premier League has been extremely unpredictable so far this season, with all of the big sides dropping points in fixtures they were expected to win.
Tottenham are one of just two unbeaten teams in the division along with Manchester City, with the two clubs set to square off at the Etihad on Saturday.
Liverpool and Chelsea have both underperformed in their first six games of the season. Arsenal’s 3-1 loss against a resurgent Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday has really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons regarding the top four places.
Following the game on Sunday, Gary Neville, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Roy Keane and Paul Merson debated who will finish in the Champions League places, and there was a fair amount of disagreement among the panel (Sky Sports).
However, Defoe is quite confident that Spurs and Chelsea will join City and Liverpool in the top four, given the quality that they have at their disposal.
The Tottenham legend told Sky Sports Football Daily: “I’m not going to say who is going to win, and who is second and that. But for me, the top four teams in the league this year, when I look at the squads, I think Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and, Chelsea.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The race for the top four spots certainly looks like it could be more competitive than it has been for a while.
Man Utd seem to be clicking into gear under Ten Hag while one would expect Liverpool to also turn their form around sooner rather than later.
Tottenham have looked the most defensively solid out of the ‘big six’ so far this season, which is why I think we will finish in the top four again.
