Speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup tie against Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur’s assistant manager Cristian Stellini has hinted that he may be set to make changes to his starting lineup.
Stellini is currently overseeing the first team in Antonio Conte’s absence. The manager is still in his native Italy recovering from the surgery to remove his gallbladder earlier this month.
For the assistant manager, it’s been a successful period of caretaker duties, with Stellini taking charge for the win over Manchester City at the start of February, and returning to the hot seat for the wins over West Ham and Chelsea recently.
Next up is a visit to Sheffield in the fifth round of the FA Cup, where Spurs will take on high-flying Championship side Sheffield United.
The competition is viewed as Tottenham’s best chance of silverware this year, so a strong lineup is expected.
Stellini has opted for the same starting lineup in the last two games, but it sounds like he could be set to change that for the cup match.
He told Football.London: “We will pick the right team to play a right match.
“We can win by making the right changes. We are completely trusting in the players.”
On previous experiences in the FA Cup, Stellini recalled Tottenham’s exit to Championship opposition last year: “Last season we knew very well that we were disappointed after the match in Middlesbrough.
“Now we are in a momentum where players have to take responsibility and us as staff.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While I think we should rotate the squad for this game, we have to be very careful not to take Sheffield United for granted and we should field as strong a team as possible.
There are very few huge teams left in the cup this year, and we’ve got a great opportunity of going all the way if we can win tomorrow night.
