Roy Keane has claimed that Antonio Conte would have been delighted to see Harry Kane finding his scoring boots over the international break.

With Conte being just two weeks into his job at Tottenham, the international break certainly did not come at the right time for the Italian as he tries to get the squad accustomed to his ideas.

According to reports, the 52-year-old has put the players who have remained at Hotspur Way through a rigorous training regime as he aims to get their fitness up to his speed.

Despite not having the opportunity to work with Kane over the last week and a half, Conte would have seen the striker net seven goals for England in their thumping wins over Albania and San Marino.

Keane believes that the Spurs boss would have been over the moon to see his star-striker back among the goals, insisting that the 28-year-old’s two international outings are better than any training he could have done back at Hotspur Way.

The Manchester United legend told ITV (from 20:45, November 15, 2021): “Conte will be delighted [with Kane’s goals for England over the international break].

“A lot of managers complain about their players playing for their country – I’ve experienced that myself – but Conte will be sitting at home going, ‘what he’s doing with England is better than any training he could’ve done’.

“He’s scoring goals, he’ll go back to Tottenham with spring in his step.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We have seen time and again how strikers go into a shell when their goals run dry and suddenly look like world-beaters after finding the back of the net on a couple of occasions.

Kane’s confidence would have certainly taken a hit over recent months as the 28-year-old has never really had a barren spell in the seven years since he broke through at Spurs.

So, Keane is right in saying that Kane could be a different player on the back of his international break. Conte will also be delighted with the fact that Southgate took the striker off around the hour mark in both matches.
