Football Transfers have revealed that Manchester United’s efforts to sign Ivan Perisic from Tottenham Hotspur have been knocked back over recent days.
Earlier in the summer, it was widely reported that Perisic was one of the players Tottenham were ready to listen to offers for (Evening Standard).
However, the Croat seems to have won over Ange Postecoglou, with the Australian confirming a couple of weeks ago that the experienced wide player has a future at Spurs (Football.London).
The former Inter Milan star has come on as a substitute in all three of Tottenham’s Premier League matches so far this season and he has looked a real threat on the left of Postecoglou’s front three.
A couple of days ago Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas revealed that Man Utd are considering a shock move for Sergio Reguilon after Luke Shaw sustained a hamstring injury, and it has now emerged that the Red Devils have also explored a move for Perisic.
United’s attempts to sign Perisic knocked back
Football Transfers claim that when United inquired about potentially signing Perisic on loan from Tottenham, their approach was swiftly turned down.
In fact, it is explained that when the Manchester club contacted the 34-year-old’s representatives, they were not even encouraged to submit a firm offer to Spurs.
Spurs Web Opinion
Postecoglou evidently values Perisic as a squad player and there is no reason for Tottenham to consider weakening themselves and strengthening a direct rival by letting the Croat join Man Utd.
The former Inter star has already demonstrated that he can be a very useful impact substitute for Spurs this season and I fully expect Ange to hand him a start against Fulham on Tuesday.
