Sergio Reguilon has admitted that he could not turn down the chance to join Manchester United on loan when the Red Devils came calling.
Reguilon, who spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, was not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans, having failed to make the matchday squad for Tottenham’s first four games for the season.
The Spaniard was thus always like to leave Hotspur Way before the transfer deadline but hardly anyone would have expected until a couple of weeks ago that he would make a switch to Old Trafford.
The injury to Luka Shaw meant that Erik Ten Hag’s side have decided to move for the 26-year-old as an emergency option at left-back.
According to reports, while there is no fee involved, the Red Devils will cover Reguilon’s full salary over the course of his stay at the club, and the loan deal contains a break clause in January (The Athletic).
Reguilon could not turn down Manchester United
The former Real Madrid man has now admitted that the decision to make the switch up north was a straight-forward one after his conversation with Ten Hag.
After completing the switch, he told Man Utd’s official website: “In life, you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down.
“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success. I know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Reguilon would have feared the worst after his move to Real Sociedad collapsed last week but this is a great opportunity for him to get his career back on track.
If he delivers a couple of good displays and puts himself on the shop window, that would only be good news for Spurs ahead of the January window.
