He may have reached the end of the line when it comes to his Tottenham career, but Sergio Reguilon has picked up some praise during his time on loan at Manchester United already.
It has been a strange couple of years for Sergio Reguilon. He arrived at Tottenham from Real Madrid and managed to establish himself as a first-team regular under Jose Mourinho.
However, Antonio Conte clearly did not feel the Spaniard fit into his system and sent him out on loan to Atletico Madrid. Things didn’t go to plan there, though, with injury restricting Reguilon to just 12 appearances and 317 minutes of action (Transfermarkt).
Now, with Ange Postecoglou in charge of Spurs, there was still no way back into the first team for Reguilon, and the player was made readily available for transfer over the summer.
It appeared no move would happen for the 26-year-old until an injury to Luke Shaw left Manchester United in desperate need of a new left-back. Reguilon has joined the Red Devils on loan until January, with the option to extend.
Reguilon was the best player on the pitch for United
Manchester United lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich in midweek, with Reguilon starting in the left-back position for Erik ten Hag’s side. It was not a great performance for United, but the Spurs man still got some praise for his role.
Speaking on talkSPORT after that game, Jamie O’Hara said: “I mean [Sergio] Reguilon was [Manchester United’s] best player tonight and he’s on loan from Spurs.”
Co-host Jason Cundy added: “He was excellent.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It is a bit of a back-handed compliment to say Reguilon was the best player in a very poor United team. I watched that game, and I think the best thing you can say about Reguilon is, he didn’t embarrass himself at all. He played relatively well, but he didn’t do anything special at all.
