Even though Italy were at the end of a 3-1 loss in what was a repeat of the final of Euro 2020, Udogie showed plenty of promise in what was his first start for his country.

As Spurs fans have come to expect of the 20-year-old, he was solid defensively in one-on-one situations and decisive in his forays up the pitch.

Udogie, who started the move that led to Gianluca Scamacca’s opener in the 15th minute, has received plenty of praise from the Italian press for his showing in London.

Since finally arriving in North London this summer, Destiny Udogie has been a revelation in the revived Spurs squad under Ange Postecoglou.

Mayor condemns racist abuse of Destiny Udogie

However, the experience may have been tarnished somewhat by the fact that a Facebook post celebrating Udogie’s breakthrough for Italy has been hit by racist trolls. The Municipality of Nogara, Udogie’s birthplace, shared the post but a slew of highly offensive comments were added to the comments section.

The mayor of Nogara, Flavio Pasini, has spoken to CalcioMercato on the matter: “Let me be clear: we clearly distance ourselves from any sentence against the colour of Destiny’s skin.

“Udogie is from Nogara and it is inadmissible to read certain things against a boy who was born and raised in my country and who has realised his dream of making his debut with the blue jersey of Italy.

“I tried to find out who it was who wrote certain phrases and I noticed that those insulting him are not people from Nogara but people who have flocked to our Facebook page to rage for no reason against a good boy, one of ours, of whom we are proud.”

England needed a point at Wembley on Tuesday to secure passage to next summer’s European Championship in Germany, and it looked like the Three Lions might be in for a tricky night when the away side took the lead through Gianluca Scamacca on 15 minutes.

Destiny Udogie, who made his first start for the Azzurri, was involved in the goal, with the Spurs star starting the move with an impressive burst down the left flank.

However, the Three Lions hit back quickly, with Kane stepping up to convert from the penalty spot on 32 minutes after Jude Bellingham was fouled in the box.

That extra time spent in Italy clearly worked wonders for Udogie, who has arrived in England this season looking hungry to succeed. The 20-year-old is one of many players thriving under Ange Postecoglou at Spurs.

For someone so young, and given he is brand new to life in England and the Premier League, Udogie has settled in remarkably well.

Luciano Spalletti handed him his first cap on Saturday, as the youngster came off the bench to replace Federico Dimarco in the 80th minute before setting up Davide Fratessi for Italy’s fourth goal.

Speaking after the game, Spalletti revealed that Udogie had been asked to play as a midfielder in training, remarking that the former Udinese man is capable of operating in the middle of the park (Tuttomercatoweb).

The Spurs man has got his first call-up to the Azzurri set-up for their upcoming qualifiers against Malta and England, and Antonelli believes that the left-back is ready to showcase what he can do.

When asked about Udogie’s call-up, he told Sport Italia: “It’s the crowning achievement of many things. He’ll turn 21 on the 28th of November, he has almost 80 games in Serie A and in the Premier League, he is 7 for 7.

Spurs have been linked with the talented 23-year-old centre-back in a potential reunion with former coach Antonio Conte, who is keen to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign (Daily Mail).

The Times has claimed Inter are demanding a fee in the region of £54 million to sanction a deal for Bastoni, who made 44 appearances for the Serie A runners-up this season (Transfermarkt). 

Coincidentally, Bastoni posted an image of himself on Instagram on Tuesday captioned: “Flying to London”, which caused a little stir ahead of the opening of the transfer window.

Insigne has been one of Napoli’s most consistent performers over the last decade and the 30-year-old has also become a key part of the Italian national side under Roberto Mancini, playing a valued role in the Azzurri’s march to European Championship glory this summer.

Corriere del Mezzogiorno have now explained that wages are the major stumbling block preventing Insigne from signing a new contract with Napoli.

While Tottenham are said to hold an ‘interest’ in the 30-year-old, the North Londoners are labelled as a ‘distant destination’ at this point in time.

The report further adds that an offer from Spurs has ‘never been taken into consideration’ up to this point, with Insigne preferring to stay in Italy.

Inter Milan are named as another potential destination for the Napoli skipper if they get rid of Alexis Sanchez.

I am not convinced that Insigne would be a good fit for the Premier League and the fact that he would have to be played on the left means that Son would have to be moved from his best position to accommodate the 30-year-old. I would much rather see Spurs snapping up someone like Traore, who would add a different dimension to our attack.

Locatelli is one of many Serie A players to be linked with a move to Tottenham after the appointment of Fabio Paratici as the club’s managing director of football.

While the central midfielder has been a consistent performer for Sassuolo over the years, his impressive showings for the Azzuri at Euro 2020 have now shot him into the limelight.

Previous reports have indicated that Juventus are also in talks with Sassuolo regarding a potential loan deal for the 23-year-old, while some sources have also established Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal as the front-runners for the midfielder’s signature.

Sassuolo’s chief executive Giovanni Carnevali has warned clubs hoping to sign Locatelli that they would have to pay in excess of €40m (£34.4m).

The Italian international has now said that he did not give much thought to his future during the European Championship.

Locatelli said (via Fabrizio Romano): “I haven’t really thought about my next club so far, I was focused on the national team. 

“From tomorrow we will see what happens. I support Juventus? Right now we are here for the national team, so I support Italy.”

Going by the reports over recent weeks, Spurs do not seem to be at the front of the queue for Locatelli’s signature. The Italian international seems to be just one of many central midfielders on Paratici’s radar, with the Spurs managing director also rumoured to be after the likes of Franck Kessie and Weston McKennie.

Italy and England go head to head at Wembley for the 20:00 kick-off and Kane and Bonucci will likely be seeing plenty of each other before the final whistle.

Despite the Spurs man kicking into form over the past few matches, Bonucci insisted that the Italy players were not just discovering Harry Kane as they have been aware of his talents for a long time.

You would think that a large part of the result this evening will depend on who comes out on top, Kane and Sterling or Bonucci and Chiellini. I for one hope that we see our boy lifting the trophy!

England finals are bigger than Tottenham finals, that is just how it is. International tournaments do not come around often and teams capable of winning them even less so. Let’s hope that we see Kane lift a trophy this evening.
