Former Tottenham fan favourite Erik Lamela found the back of the net for Sevilla in their 3-2 win over Espanyol but got sent off for a rash challenge late in the encounter.
Lamela perhaps did not do justice to his talent at Spurs, with his eight-year spell at the club being marred by injuries.
However, the Argentine always gave everything for the shirt and was quite willing to engage in the dark arts, which is perhaps what made him such a popular figure among the Tottenham fan base.
So, Spurs fans will not be surprised to hear that Lamela scored Sevilla’s opener against Espanyol but received his marching orders after two rash tackles in either half saw him pick up two bookings.

Spurs Web Opinion
Just like with Cristian Romero, this aggression is what makes Lamela the kind of player he is, and so, you would not want to blunt it. You just have to accept that he is occasionally going to get himself sent off.
I also found it quite interesting that Julen Lopetegui used the 30-year-old as a centre-forward in this match – something that hardly ever happened during the Argentine’s time at Spurs.
