Erik Lamela would love for Sevilla to re-sign Bryan Gil from Tottenham Hotspur in January to link up with the young winger again.
Gil returned to Sevilla on loan during the last January transfer window and the winger impressed for Los Nervionenses, even earning a recall to the Spanish national team.
The 22-year-old would perhaps have been hoping to catch the eye of Ange Postecoglou when he returned to Spurs summer but those hopes were dashed when he picked up a groin injury that sidelined him right from the start of pre-season.
The silky winger does not appear to be far away from a return to action as he took to social media last week to confirm that he is now nearing full fitness.
According to L’Equipe, Lyon tried to sign Gil on loan during transfer deadline day but failed to do so owing to ‘financial or timing reasons’.
Erik Lamela would love to play with Bryan Gil again
It remains to be seen if another potential loan move is on the cards for the youngster in January and Lamela has now said that he would certainly welcome the player’s return to the Raman Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
When asked about Gil potentially returning to Seville, the former Tottenham man told Estadio Deportivo: “I would love it, for the person he is. He’s a great teammate, we get on great.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Gil certainly has the attributes to do well in Postecoglou’s system, the Australian now has an embarrassment of riches in the wide areas following the arrival of Brennan Johnson.
With Spurs having no European football and out of the Carabao Cup, I do not see the 22-year-old getting many minutes over the coming months. So, another loan move in January appears likely for the winger.
