After Mauricio Pochettino was announced as the new Chelsea manager, Harry Kane has wished his former Tottenham Hotspur boss ‘all the best’ for the next stage of his career.
Pochettino led Spurs to top-four finishes in four of his five seasons in charge, as well as their first Champions League final in the 2018/19 campaign before he was dismissed by Daniel Levy in November 2019.
The Argentine warned Spurs faced a “painful” rebuild, with several senior players reaching the last year of their contracts shortly before the Champions League showpiece defeat to Liverpool (talkSPORT), however, the rebuild never took place and soon found himself on the managerial scrap heap.
Tottenham were reported to have contacted Pochettino over a possible return to north London ahead of the summer of 2021, but instead remained at Paris Saint-Germain (ESPN).
After Antonio Conte departed the club in March, some fans sung for the return of Pochettino from the stands but their calls fell on deaf ears in the boardroom with it believed Tottenham never even made contact with the 51-year-old regarding the vacancy at the club (talkSPORT).
Chelsea instead decided to make their move by appointing the 51-year-old to succeed Graham Potter as head coach of Tottenham’s bitter rivals.
Speaking to Reuters about Pochettino’s appointment, Kane said: “Mauricio was an amazing manager for me. Great person, great, great coach. Helped me a lot to get to where I am now. So I’m really appreciative of him.
“Everyone has their career, everyone has their future. So all I can say is I wish him all the best. I hope he does well – just obviously not as well as us.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Let’s not read too much into the fact that Harry Kane wants Tottenham to do better than Chelsea next season.
That doesn’t mean he won’t be leaving us this summer and joining Chelsea, though I do genuinely think he would feel too guilty doing that to the fans. Fingers crossed he isn’t tempted by a Pochettino reunion.
