Alasdair Gold has a funny feeling that Ivan Perisic could leave Tottenham Hotspur in January despite his injury.
Perisic picked up an ACL injury which has ruled him out of action for six months, with the news coming as a major blow to Ange Postecoglou, who had relied on the experienced wide-man as an impact substitute in the first few games of the season.
With the Croat’s contract at North London running out next summer, Football Insider claimed last week that he has already played his final game for Spurs and is seeking a return to his homeland.
The outlet suggested that the 34-year-old is keen to finish his career at Hadjuk Split and has already reached a verbal agreement with his boyhood club about a potential return.
The report alleged that Tottenham have also given him the green light to do so as they do not want to stand in his way.
Has Ivan Perisic played his final Tottenham game?
Gold believes that Perisic could make that move in January even though he might not kick a ball again until next summer.
The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “I’ll tell you who I think. I think Perisic might. I know that’s weird because he’s injured, but I just feel there must be something to this Hajduk Split, there must be something in that.
“The deal for Vuskovic has gone through where Spurs were talking to them as well. I just feel that makes sense, if he can come back and get a couple of months of football, maybe he can do it for them and get back in the Euros squad.
“I just have this funny feeling that maybe Perisic does head off to Hajduk Split because he’s not going to play for Spurs anyway.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs and Hajduk would have likely talked about Perisic during their negotiations over a deal for Vuskovic but the Croat’s injury would almost certainly affect his future. I suspect he will now return to Hajduk on a free transfer when his contract with Tottenham runs out next summer.
