Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Lille’s Jonathan David continues to be on Tottenham’s radar.

David, who has been prolific since making the switch from Belgium to France three years ago, is one of the names mooted as a potential replacement for Harry Kane at Tottenham over the last few weeks (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness).

The Canadian international, who found the back of the net 26 times across all competitions last season, looks ready to make a big move, and it was even asserted by Rudy Galetti recently that he is one of the strikers at the top of the North London club’s wishlist.

The Italian journalist added that Tottenham would have to stump up a fee of around €50m-€60m (£42.9m- £51.7m) to prise the striker away from Stade Pierre Mauroy this summer.

Jonathan David was Paratici’s Kane replacement

Jacobs has now asserted that David might have been Spurs’ top choice to replace Kane had Fabio Paratici still been at the club.

Then journalist told The Daily Briefing: “Before Fabio Paratici left Spurs, the most likely target, if Kane left, was Lille’s Jonathan David. An approach still can’t be ruled out.”

We know that Paratici is still very much working for Tottenham in an advisory role, which is perhaps why the club remain interested in David. However, all indications over the past few days suggest that Spurs are prioritising a move for Gent’s Gift Orban this summer.
