The print edition of Het Laatste Nieuws (as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are not as convinced by Gift Orban anymore in light of the striker’s recent struggles.

Spurs were linked with a whole host of strikers across Europe following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich, with Orban widely reported as the North London club’s top target (CaughtOffside).

However, in the end, Tottenham decided against signing an out-and-out number nine, choosing instead to strike a £47.5m deal with Nottingham Forest for the versatile Brennan Johnson.

Orban’s struggles have put Spurs off a little bit

HLN have now stated that Tottenham walked away from a €30m (£26m) deal for the striker as they considered ‘the gamble too big’ and wanted to see more from him to be sure that he can succeed at a higher level.

Orban has not done anything to convince the Spurs hierarchy so far this season, with the 21-year-old not having found the back of the net since August 20th.

The report describes that as a ‘serious slump’ for the Nigerian and adds that ‘things have gone completely wrong’ for him over recent weeks.

Finally, the publication states that Tottenham are now watching ‘with suspicion’ to see if Orban can recover from this slump.

Spurs Web Opinion

This should perhaps serve as a learning moment to all the Spurs fans who were livid with the club for not signing Orban after watching a few YouTube compilations of his goals.

Recruitment decisions are quite complicated and there are a whole host of factors that determine whether a singing is successful or not.

While we as fans are entitled to have strong opinions, to question the competency of those making these decisions in extremely harsh terms is uncalled for, given that none of us are as qualified as those making these decisions.

It was reported by Het Laatste Nieuws (via Sport Witness) last week that although Spurs’ scouts were convinced about Orban, the Lilywhites found Gent’s €30m (£25.8m) asking price to be excessive, considering that the player only had six good months in the Belgian top flight.

Barca now enter the mix for Spurs-linked Gift Orban

If Tottenham reignite their interest in the Gent star in January, they could be faced with plenty of competition, with Fichajes now claiming that Barca have their eye on the youngster.

The report states that the Catalan giants are on the lookout for Robert Lewandowski’s successor and have identified Orban as their number one target.

The publication adds that the Blaugrana could battle Spurs and AC Milan for the Nigerian’s signature when the transfer window reopens.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would have absolutely no issues outbidding both Milan and Barca if they decide to pursue Orban. However, it is unclear if Spurs are fully convinced about the 21-year-old, having walked away from a deal for him in the summer.

Belgian publication Het Laatste Nieuws (as relayed by Sport Witness) have claimed that scouts from Tottenham were ‘convinced’ Gift Orban would be an excellent acquisition but they were ‘scared off’ by Gent’s asking price during the summer transfer window.

The report explains that Spurs were not the only club eyeing a move for Orban in the summer, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and Benfica also sending their scouts to watch him in action.

Some of these clubs allegedly enquired about his availability, with the 21-year-old’s entourage said to have had an ‘eventful summer’.

Out of these clubs, Tottenham were the most impressed with the youngster, with some at the North London club considering him ‘an excellent investment for the future’.

Gift Orban wanted to join Spurs this summer

The report adds that the striker made it clear that he wanted to join Spurs, which is why he was benched by Gent for a couple of matches.

However, it is explained that the Belgian club set the asking price of €30m (£25.8m), which put off Tottenham from pursuing a deal.

The outlet asserts that Fulham also showed late interest in Orban but they also considered the aforementioned asking price to be excessive, considering the striker had only had six good months in the Jupiler Pro League.

Spurs Web Opinion

I found it ridiculous how Spurs fans who had not watched Orban play a single game were suddenly demanding that the club buy him and were convinced that he was the answer, based on nothing more than a couple of YouTube videos.

While the 21-year-old evidently knows where the back of the net is, the fact that he has not even been a regular in Gent’s starting eleven this season suggests that he is perhaps not as good (yet) as some think.

Gent CEO Michael Louwagie has questioned why Belgian sides are not able to get huge transfer fees for talents such as Gift Orban when Eredivisie sides are able to do so.

However, in the end, Tottenham decided against signing an out-and-out number nine, choosing instead to strike a £47.5m deal with Nottingham Forest for the versatile Brennan Johnson.

It has been suggested over the last few weeks by various publications, including Voetbal Krant, that Spurs pulled the plug on the deal for the Orban because they found Gent’s £25m asking price to be excessive for the 21-year-old.

That is not an opinion that is shared by Louwagie, who questioned why Belgian Pro League sides cannot demand the type of fees that Dutch clubs are demanding for their top attacking talent.

Could Tottenham go back in for Gift Orban?

When asked about the price being mooted for Orban, the Gent CEO told Het Nieuwsblad: “That has already made me angry. Why do Ajax and PSV sell players like Antony for 95 million euros and others for easily 40 to 50 million?

“And why should we think that 30 million euros is too much, even though the competition here is at least as good (as in the Eredivisie)?

“But we are Flemish. (We) look at each other’s plates and are jealous, instead of all demanding higher prices and helping Belgian football progress. We really need to stop doing that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While it might be true that there is not much difference in terms of quality between the Eredivisie and the Jupiler Pro League, it is also true that Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are bigger than any club in Belgium, and are thus able to attract better talent to their clubs.

You will certainly not find any Premier League or La Liga side paying £50m-plus for players from Feyenoord, Alkmaar, or Twente.

Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck has insisted that Gift Orban, who was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer transfer window, will not regret staying at the Belgian side.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano told Kick last week that despite their interest in Orban, the Lilywhites never actually made an official offer for the Nigerian striker.

Although the 21-year-old has started the season impressively, with six goals in nine matches across all competitions, Vanhaezebrouck left the striker on the bench for Gent’s 2-1 win over Club Brugge on Sunday.

Gent manager is happy to still have Gift Orban

The 59-year-old has now defended his decision to leave Oban out of the starting eleven, insisting that the centre-forward will get a lot of opportunities in the weeks and months to come.

The Gent boss told Voetbalkrant: “I’m glad I still have my strikers and otherwise we would have solved it differently. We’ll see, there are still a few markets open, so always pay attention.

“Will he (Orban) regret staying? No, he will certainly get many more opportunities to play. The fact that he started on the bench against Club Brugge is because I have three good strikers.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While I would have preferred for Tottenham to sign an out-and-out centre-forward (in addition to Johnson), it is ridiculous how some Spurs fans were demanding that the club sign Orban, based on nothing more than watching a few YouTube videos of the youngster.

While the 21-year-old seems to have plenty of potential, there is certainly no guarantee that he will be able to perform at the Premier League level. Paying around £25m-£30m for him would have been a much bigger gamble than spending close to £50m on Johnson.

Fabrizio Romano has said that even though Tottenham explored a deal for Gift Orban, the North London club never submitted an offer.

Despite all the speculation over the last month and a half linking Orban with a move to Tottenham (Voetbalkrant), the move does not appear to have progressed, and with just two days left in the transfer window, it now appears quite unlikely to go through.

In fact, Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast on Sunday that Spurs may decide against signing an out-and-out centre-forward of the Nigerian’s profile.

He suggested that Ange Postecoglou prefers a versatile wide-attacker such as Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson over a number nine.

Gift Orban

Tottenham never bid for highly-rated Gift Orban

Romano has now stated that while Spurs are still prioritising signing an offensive player, the club never actually submitted an offer for Orban.

The journalist told Kick: “The priority [for Tottenham] is to sign an offensive player. We know they have to replace Harry Kane. They considered Gift Orban for a long time but they never sent an official bid.

“We had reports from Belgium about an official bid, it was last week or 10 days ago, but I’m told this is not true. Tottenham never sent an official bid.

“They considered that possibility, like they considered also Jonathan David who is a player they always appreciated, but they never presented an official bid.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Perhaps Postecoglou plans on using Son Heung-min upfront, which is why he is leaning towards a wide-attacker such as Brennan Johnson rather than another young, up-and-coming striker like Orban, who might not be ready yet for Premier League football.

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has now said that Gift Orban looks unlikely to join Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window closes on Friday night.

The pressure of having to fill Harry Kane’s shoes is already starting to tell on Richarlison, who is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League so far this campaign.

Following the Brazilian’s struggles against Bournemouth on Saturday, an increasing number of Spurs fans are now desperate to see the club sign a new number nine before the window slams shut.

Orban, who has set Belgian football alight since moving to Gent in January, is the striker who has most heavily been linked with Tottenham, with journalist Dean Jones telling The Football Terrace just a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites remain confident of concluding a deal for the Nigerian.

Gift Orban to Tottenham deal looking unlikely

However, Thomas has now said on the Last Word On Spurs podcast that the North London club are now looking unlikely to sign Orban or any other centre-forward in the final few days of the window.

The Sky Sports reporter explained that Tottenham are now looking to move for a wide-forward such as Brennan Johnson rather than an out-and-out striker.

Spurs Web Opinion

Perhaps Postecoglou feels that Johnson can operate across the front three and with the option of Son also playing through the middle, he does not see another number nine as a priority.

There is also the possibility that Tottenham are plotting a big-money move for Ivan Toney in January, which is why they are unsure about signing another centre-forward right now.

Journalist Dean Jones has said there is still ‘confidence’ at Tottenham that they can get a deal for Gift Orban wrapped up before the transfer deadline.

Orban has started the new season where he left off last campaign, having found the back of the net six times in his first six matches across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Reports from Belgium over the last week have indicated that the striker’s impressive start to the season has also alerted other clubs, with Fulham and Lille also thought to be circling the 21-year-old (De Morgen).

While it was revealed by Ben Jacobs on the Last Word on Spurs podcast that the Nigerian wants to join the North London club, some sources have suggested recently that the Lilywhites have no intention of paying Gent’s €30m (£25.5m) asking price for the forward (Voetbalkrant).

Spurs are confident a Gift Orban deal can be signed

Jones has now said that despite the concerns that have cropped up recently, Spurs still think it is possible to get the Orban deal over the line.

The journalist said on The Football Terrace (as transcribed by TBR Football): “There was never going to be a problem with personal terms with Gift Orban. That was never a worry of theirs. The concern is actually getting this deal over the line. But there is still confidence it can happen.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears as if Tottenham have the Orban deal lined up and ready but are waiting to get some players out of the door first before finalising the striker’s capture. At the moment, all indications are that this deal might drag on until the final couple of days of the transfer window.

Ben Jacobs has claimed that Gift Orban wants to move to Tottenham but Gent’s asking price will be the determining factor in whether the deal goes through.

Over the last couple of days, several outlets have claimed that Spurs are hesitant to meet Gent’s €30m (£25.5m) asking price for Orban (Voetbalkrant) while the North London club are also said to be facing competition from the likes of Fulham and Lille for the striker (De Morgen).

With little over a week left until the transfer window slams shut, it remains to be seen if Tottenham are able to strike a deal for the 21-year-old, who has set the Belgian top-flight elite since moving to Gent back in January.

Price the determining factor in Gift Orban deal

Jacobs has now said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast (starting at 1:23:31) that while the Lilywhites’ interest in Orban is ‘very real’, the deal depends on the Belgian club’s asking price for the player.

The journalist explains that the question is whether Tottenham deem the Nigerian to be worth over £25m, given that he has not played in any of Europe’s top-five leagues so far.

Jacobs adds that Orban himself wants the move and suggests that Gent might also insist on adding a sell-on clause to any deal for the centre-forward.

Spurs Web Opinion

I find it ridiculous that some fans are just demanding that the club pay up the £30m for Orban after just watching some YouTube videos of the striker.

While the 21-year-old looks like a talented prospect, we have no way of knowing whether he could deliver in the Premier League. Tottenham might well decide that it would be a safer bet to spend £45m-£50m on Jonathan David than £30m on Orban.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Gift Orban might have just got a lot more difficult, with Football Insider now reporting that Gent are ready to demand as much as £40m for the striker.

Over the last few days, multiple Belgian outlets, including De Morgen and  Voetbalkrant, have reported that Tottenham are hesitant to meet Gent’s €30m (£25.6m) asking price for Orban.

The former even revealed that the North London club are facing competition from both Fulham and Lille for the Nigerian, who is allegedly thought to prefer the project at the Ligue 1 side.

Gent now set to demand record fee for Gift Orban

Football Insider have now claimed that Gent are ready to demand a Belgian record fee for the 21-year-old, with the side expected to ask Premier League sides to pay £30m-£40m for the prolific forward.

It is explained that the club based in East Flanders believe Orban is worth more than the previous record sale by a Jupiler Pro League side – Charles De Ketelaere’s move from Club Brugge sale to AC Milan for £31.1m.

This is because Orban is contracted to Gent until 2027 and has started the new season on fire with six goals from six appearances in all competitions (Tranfermarkt).

Furthermore, the outlet states that Gent are aware that both Tottenham and Fulham have plenty of money to spend, having sold Harry Kane and Aleksandar Mitrovic respectively.

Spurs Web Opinion

Levy does not like being held to ransom by clubs, which is why I would not be surprised if Spurs walked away from the Orban deal.

Even though Jonathan David might be more expensive than the Nigerian, the North London club might feel that paying £50m for the Lille star is better value than paying £35m-£40m for the Gent starlet.

Journalist Rudy Galetti has said that Lille’s Jonathan David remains right at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Harry Kane, alongside Gent’s Gift Orban.

There has been an unending amount of speculation linking Orban with a move to Tottenham over recent weeks (Fabrizio Romano – ThatsFootballTV) but over the last few days, some outlets have suggested that a move for the striker might not prove straightforward.

Both Voetbalkrant and De Morgen reported earlier this week that Tottenham are not prepared to meet Gent’s €30m (£25.5m) asking price for the 21-year-old, with the former suggesting that the likes of Fulham and Lille are also circling over the youngster.

Jonathan David is also at the top of Spurs’ list

Galetti has now said that while Spurs continue to have an eye on Orban, the North London club like David just as much as the Nigerian.

The journalist claims that the club have followed the Canadian international, who scored 26 goals in 40 appearances last season for Lille, for a ‘long time’.

Galetti told GiveMeSport: “Tottenham in this moment are more focused on the exit market, but speaking about incomings, a possible incoming move for sure to find the replacement for Harry Kane is a task with a top priority.

“Together with Orban as told before, the other name at the top of their list, followed for a long time is David.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do think Tottenham will get a deal for Orban over the line once a few of their unwanted players leave over the coming days. However, Spurs will not want to be held to ransom by Gent, which is why they will have identified other alternatives, including David.

Fabrizio Romano claims Tottenham are currently looking at Gift Orban and Jonathan David as potential striker options now that Harry Kane has left North London.

The Italian journalist says Spurs are on the lookout for a new forward but they want the right profile of player, rather than being pressured into signing a Kane replacement.

Orban is said to be seen as ‘an opportunity’ for the Lilywhites and Daniel Levy and co are already familiar with the conditions of a potential deal, even if they have not yet sent a bid.

Jonathan David, meanwhile, is also on Tottenham’s radar, although he is deemed too expensive at this moment in time because of his £51m price tag.

David has repeatedly been linked with Spurs over recent weeks (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness) and is allegedly the man Fabio Paratici wanted to sign as Kane’s successor (Ben Jacobs).

Meanwhile, Gift Orban is said to prefer a move to Lille, ironically Jonathan David’s club, because he is not happy with the prospect of being second choice in N17 (DeMorgen).

Fabrizio Romano says Spurs like Orban and David

Fabrizio said (via ThatsFootballTV): “They (Spurs) could sign a new striker, the idea is to sign a new striker but they want the right player, at the right price, not to spend money on a player they don’t trust 100%. They are discussing also with Postecoglou about that.

“Gift Orban remains an opportunity, he is one of the names they are considering and they know the conditions of the deal but have not sent an official bid at the moment.

“Another player Tottenham really appreciate is Jonathan David from Lille. However, at the moment, David is considered too expensive as Lille will demand €60m.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Gift Orban seems like the kind of player we have seen down the years where Spurs don’t take a punt on him, then he’s suddenly worth £100m in a few years. Look at James Maddison, Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, etc.

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to fill the void in attack left following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich with the summer transfer window set to enter its final stages.

One player who has been linked with a move to North London is Gent’s Gift Orban, with the 21-year-old having already scored six goals in as many matches across all competitions so far this season.

Spurs not prepared to pay asking price for Gent Orban

Belgian news outlet Voetbalkrant have today claimed that a deal for the Nigerian could be some way off with Tottenham having been left ‘shocked’ by Gent’s €30m (£25.5m) valuation of Orban and ‘do not want’ to pay the asking price.

Orban is also coming off the back of a prolific previous campaign by Gent, where he found the back of the net 20 times in 22 appearances having only joined the club in January of this year from Norwegian side Stabaek (transfermarkt).

SpursWeb Opinion

Considering Spurs have just pocketed £100million for Harry Kane and with Richarlison having struggled in the opening two Premier League matches, it is frustrating that Spurs are not prepared to pay a relatively sensible fee for Orban, who has the potential to become a top player in years to come.

De Morgen have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur face several potential issues in getting a deal for Gift Orban over the line, including the fact that the striker is leaning towards joining Lille over the North London club.

There has been plenty said and written about Spurs‘ pursuit of Orban over the last few weeks but it emerged on Monday (Football Insider) that the Lilywhites were set to face competition from Premier League rivals, Fulham, for the striker’s signature.

The publication added that the Cottagers are keen on signing a centre-forward following Aleksandar Mitrovic’ss sale to Al-Hilal and have identified the 21-year-old as a potential target to replace the Serbian.

Gift Orban prefers Lille over Tottenham Hotspur

De Morgen have now also backed up Fulham’s interest in Orban and they claim Lille are also circling around the Nigerian.

They state that Tottenham remain in ‘close contact’ with the player’s entourage and plan to make a concrete offer for him after they trim their squad.

However, it is suggested that Orban would either have to be content with a backup role at Spurs or potentially head out on loan after signing for the club.

The outlet explains that the Premier League side’s plans ‘may not please’ the centre-forward. The report also adds that the Gent star ‘would prefer Lille’s sporting project’ but the Ligue 1 club are not thought to be in a position to meet his €30m (£25.6m) asking price.

De Morgen also add that the aforementioned price tag could also make both Spurs and Fulham ‘think twice’ about making a move for Orban this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I fully expect Tottenham to push ahead with a move for Orban once they offload a few of Lloris, Ndombele, Tanganga, Reguilon and Sanchez over the coming days.

However, it is entirely possible that the 21-year-old might be hesitant regarding a move to North London and could prioritise joining a club where he is guaranteed regular football.

Football Insider have reported that Fulham are now ready to battle Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Gent striker, Gift Orban.

Fulham have reportedly drafted a list of replacements for Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is on his way to Saudi Arabia, and the 21-year-old Nigerian has made the cut.

In fact, a source has apparently told Football Insider that Orban is one of just two strikers on Fulham’s radar to replace their Serbian goal machine.

Tottenham and Fulham both like Gift Orban

This comes after Tottenham have been heavily linked with Gift Orban ever since Harry Kane’s move to Bayern, with some reports claiming Spurs are expected to send an official bid very soon (Evening Standard).

Fabrizio Romano confirmed to GiveMeSport that Spurs have Orban on their list and the youngster is very keen on a move to the Premier League this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Considering Gift Orban is the only striker Spurs are being consistently linked with, I would be surprised if they didn’t at least make a bid. I know Tottenham need to sell players first, but the striker position is a bit sparse in N17 and they may regret not moving quickly.

Fabrizio Romano has handed Tottenham a boost in their rumoured pursuit of Gift Orban by revealing that the striker is really keen on making a switch to the Premier League this summer.

The speculation linking Orban with a move to Tottenham has gone into hyperdrive since Harry Kane’s move to Bayern, with several outlets claiming this week that the Lilywhites are expected to soon launch a concrete offer for the prolific 21-year-old (Evening Standard).

There have been some suggestions over the last few days that Spurs are not keen on paying Gent’s €30m (£25.7m) asking price for the Nigerian and are looking to negotiate down the fee (Rudy Galletti – GiveMeSport).

Meanwhile, some sources from Belgian indicate that the North London club first want to offload some of their unwanted players before pushing ahead with a move for the Gent star (De Morgen).

Fabrizio Romano confirms Spurs interest in Orban

Romano has now become the latest journalist to talk up Tottenham’s chances of landing Orban, stating that the striker has his heart set on a move to England.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “So, Gift Orban is a player that they have on the list, for sure.

“They like and appreciate him, they have been scouting him for a long time so, for sure, he’s a player on the list. And the player is really keen on a Premier League move so that could be positive for Tottenham Hotspur.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs have begun negotiating with Gent, as several outlets seem to suggest, that indicates that the club already have an agreement in place with the striker.

This deal seems like it should be a relatively easy one to do, given Gent’s modest asking price. As long as the Belgian side do not completely shift the goalposts over the coming days, it should be done within the next week.

De Morgen have stated that Gent are hesitant to sell Hugo Cuypers as they anticipate that his striker partner Gift Orban could leave amidst Tottenham’s interest.

Earlier this week, we relayed an update from journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who said that Gent do not want to lose both Cuypers and Orban in the same window and are leaning towards cashing in on the latter.

This has now been backed up by De Morgen, who state that Cuypers has emerged as a target for Bologna, with the Italian side alleged to have made a €14m (£11.9m) offer for the centre-forward.

However, it is explained that the Belgian club are not expected to accept this bid as they are ‘mainly looking for developments’ around Orban.

Spurs are waiting before bidding for Gift Orban

The report adds that Tottenham are ‘convinced’ of the Nigerian’s qualities but the North London club first want to offload some of their unwanted players before making an approach for the 21-year-old.

The publication adds that Spurs have not yet made a decision to ‘go all in’ for Obran but they are keeping the contact ‘warm’ with Gent and the striker’s entourage so that they can complete the deal ‘quickly’ if they do decide to push ahead with a move.

Spurs Web Opinion

This information ties in with the other reports we have seen over recent days which have indicated that Tottenham are now prioritising offloading players and trimming the size of their squad.

Let us hope we see the likes of Lloris, Ndombele, Reguilon and Tanganga head through the exit door over the coming days so that the club can push ahead with moves for their top targets.

Journalist Dean Jones has said that he expects Tottenham Hotspur to make three more signings before the transfer window shuts on September 2.

Ange Postecoglou himself admitted a couple of weeks ago that Spurs are looking to bring another centre-back through the door following the arrival of Micky van de Ven (Football.London), with some reports over recent days indicating that Torino’s Perr Shuurs has emerged as a top target (Times).

It has also been widely reported over the past few weeks that Tottenham are expected to enter the market for another midfielder, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg expected to complete a move to Atletico Madrid (Daily Mail).

GENT, BELGIUM – JULY 27: Gift Orban of AA Gent pictured after the UEFA Europa Conference League season 2023 – 2024, second qualifying round, first leg match between KAA Gent and MSK Zilina on July 27, 2023 in Ghent, Belgium. (Photo by Isosport/MB Media/Getty Images)

There is also the small matter of replacing Harry Kane, with reports over the last couple of days indicating that the North London club are expected to launch a concrete offer for Gent’s Gift Orban soon (CaughtOffside).

Gift Orban to Spurs should progress this week

Jones believes that Tottenham’s plans have not changed much after Kane’s departure, claiming that Orban is expected to be one of three players arriving through the door at Hotspur Way.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I expect them to make three signings. I don’t think that has changed in the past week. A move for Orban is still alive and that is expected to progress by the middle of this week. That is what I was told over the weekend.

“Obviously, Richarlison is going to get more chances this season and, in front of goal, Postecoglou is hopeful that he can start to deliver. That will be interesting.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Apart from a striker, midfielder and centre-back (potentially Orban, Gallagher and Shuurs), I also expect Spurs to make one attacking signing of the profile of Eberechi Eze or Brennan Johnson to cover for both the wide areas as well as the attacking midfield role.

Het Nieuwsblad have claimed that football agent, Mogi Bayat, who is working on Gift Orban’s sale, is now trying to sort out the differences between Tottenham and Gent regarding the striker’s transfer fee.

Over the past couple of days, multiple outlets have claimed that Tottenham are imminently expected to make a concrete offer for the prolific Orban, who the North London club have allegedly identified as the man to fill Harry Kane’s shoes (CaughtOffside).

However, on Tuesday, Italian journalist Rudy Galletti told GiveMeSport that Spurs find Gent’s asking price for the 21-year-old to be excessive, which is why the Lilywhites are trying to negotiate down the fee.

Gift Orban

Mogi Bayat now involved in Gift Orban sale

Het Nieuwsblad have now also backed up that claim, stating that Spurs and the other interested clubs have no intention of paying Gent’s €30m (£25.7m) asking price for the striker.

As a result, Bayat has now allegedly got involved, with the agent said to be working on a ‘solution’ to finalise the Nigerian’s sale.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that £25m is excessive for a player who has only had six good months in the Belgian top flight. However, Tottenham were always going to have to pay a premium for their Kane replacement as clubs are now aware that the Premier League side are sitting on quite a bit of cash.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur do not want to pay the €30m (£25.7m) fee that Gent are demanding for Gift Orban.

Orban has gone from a complete unknown to one of the hottest prospects in European football in a matter of six months since joining Gent back in January.

The 21-year-old took Belgian football by storm, scoring 20 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions during the second half of last season and he has started the new campaign in a similar vein of form, netting five goals in four matches so far.

Multiple outlets over the last few days have indicated that Orban ranks high on Spurs‘ wishlist as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, with the North London club expected to make a concrete move for the striker soon (Evening Standard).

Tottenham want a better price on Gift Orban

However, Galetti has now revealed that Tottenham do not consider the £25.7m demanded by Gent to be a fair price for the Nigerian, and are trying to negotiate down the fee.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about Spurs’ pursuit of Orban: “They would like to negotiate a fair price with Gent to bring him to the Premier League. Among the European top clubs, Inter Milan have also shown interest in him despite, as we told before, their main target remains as Folarin Balogun.

“The price tag for Gift Orban is already set by the Belgian team and that is around €30m. As told, Tottenham are trying to negotiate this amount and let’s see and wait for the development, for sure, in the next few days.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is to be expected that Gent would demand a premium for Orban, given the way he has started the new season and the fact that Spurs are now sitting on a huge pile of cash following Kane’s switch to Bayern. I fully expect this deal to be done within a matter of days.
