The agent of rumoured Tottenham target Lovro Majer has talked up the chances of his client leaving Rennes this summer in order to make a step up to a bigger club.

Rennes snapped up Majer back in 2021 after his impressive exploits in the Croatian top flight and the central midfielder has gone from strength to strength since his switch to France.

The midfielder has also become a regular for his national side and has even been likened by some to the legendary Luka Modric, owing to his technical quality and his reading of the game.

Tottenham’s interest in Majer came to light last week when Jeunes Footeux claimed that the North London club were keeping an eye on the 25-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report asserted that Rennes would be open to selling the former Dinamo Zagreb man for around €30m- €35m (£26.5m-£30.9m)

Majer’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, has now revealed that the Ligue 1 club blocked his client’s exit last summer but suggested that they would allow him to leave at the end of the current season for the right fee.

Vigorelli told Relevo about the midfielder: “During the last summer market, Atletico Madrid were very interested in him. Rennes had no need to sell him. Either because we were close to the end of the market. Or because he’s a very important player for the club.

“There was not only Atletico, but also two or three other very important clubs at a European level.

“Rennes, in the end, wanted to give him a signal by offering him (a contract) renewal. Let’s see what happens in the future.

“If the conditions are met for all parties, anything can happen. He could even leave. Why not?”

Spurs Web Opinion

While one can argue that Tottenham can do with reinforcements in central midfield, the importance of that has been overplayed by some over recent months.

If Bissouma and Bentancur are fit, we have some decent options in the middle of the park but I have always felt that we could (and should) look to upgrade on Hojbjerg, who I believe should be nothing more than a squad player.
