Football.London have revealed that Rennes will not look to extend the stay of either Joe Rodon or Djed Spence beyond the end of the season.
After failing to get a single start at Tottenham during the first half of the campaign, Djed Spence got a new lease of life after his loan move to Rennes in January.
The 22-year-old got a run of consecutive games under his belt and made an impressive start to his spell at the club, but he saw his minutes dry up after the international break in March as first-choice right-back Hamari Traore regained fitness to take his place in the starting eleven.
Rennes manager Bruno Genesio confirmed two weeks ago that the right-back had picked up a knee injury and would thus be returning to his parent club (Ouest-France).
Joe Rodon has also found game time hard to come by over the last few months, with the centre-back even struggling to make the matchday squad on several occasions recently.
However, Football.London reveal that the centre-back was handed a rare start in the club’s 5-0 win over Ajaccio 5-0 on Sunday, which was the former Swansea man’s first minutes in Ligue 1 since mid-February.
The report reveals that even though Genesio praised Rodon for his performance on his return to the side, the French club have no intention of keeping the Tottenham man at the club beyond the end of the season.
Spurs Web Opinion
While Spence has the potential to thrive at Spurs under a manager such as Arne Slot, who has an attacking approach and trusts young talent, it does look like Rodon’s time at the North London club is likely to run out this summer.
The defender might have to settle for a return to the Championship as I cannot see too many Premier League clubs showing interest in the 25-year-old on the back of his struggles at Rennes.
