Torino captain Alessandro Buongiorno has emerged as a potential centre-back target for Tottenham Hotspur as they look to bolster their defence this summer.
Spurs were poor all over the field last season but by far the weakest area of the Lilywhites squad was the defence.
The team shipped 63 goals in the Premier League during the 2022/23 campaign, a number only topped by five teams last year, three of which were relegated from the division.
New Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has already made it clear to the board that he needs to sign a new central defender this summer (90 Min).
It’s no surprise then, that a slew of names have been linked with Spurs during the current transfer window.
At present, it would appear Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven are the top targets for the role (Fabrizio Romano).
Tottenham could target central defender Buongiorno
According to the latest from the Daily Mail, a new name has entered the rumour mill when it comes to Tottenham Hotspur, as Alessandro Buongiorno is now linked with the North London club.
The Italian is captain of Torino and played 38 games for the Serie A side last season across all competitions, registering one goal and two assists from the heart of defence (Transfermarkt).
Spurs are now thought to be “interested” in the 24-year-old, though it remains to be seen exactly where falls on the club’s long list of targets for the centre-back role.
Spurs Web Opinion
I can’t see Buongiorno coming to Spurs this summer.
We have so many options on the table that it would take a lot of rejections for us to get to the Italian, but you never know what can happen.
I can however, imagine Buongiorno being part of a domino effect during the transfer window, if someone like Inter or Juventus lose a defender, they could turn to the Torino man.
