Just as one left-back looks to be arriving at Tottenham in the shape of Sergio Reguilon (Fabrizio Romano), another appears to be on his way out, with The Daily Mirror reporting that Danny Rose is edging closer to a move to Genoa.
Despite Rose giving a decent account of himself during his loan spell at Newcastle during the second half of last season, the Magpies did not make a move to sign him permanently, deciding instead to snap up Jamal Lewis from Norwich City.
The England international’s name was absent from the list of new squad numbers announced by the club last week, with reports indicating that the 30-year-old only came to know that he had lost his number three shirt after being informed by a friend, who heard it on the news (The Athletic).
Rumours of Genoa’s interest in Rose was first reported a week ago, with the Serie A club allegedly wanting to make the Spurs man their marquee signing this transfer window (PA news agency via RTE).
According to the Mirror, Genoa are keen to wrap up a permanent deal for the long-serving Tottenham defender and are currently in advanced talks to do so.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is a shame how things have seemingly ended between Rose and Tottenham but the 30-year-old only has himself to blame. Had he buckled down and focused on his football for the last two years, he could have landed one final big contract with Spurs.
For a guy who was rated among the best left-backs in the Premier League just three years ago, to join a side that just managed to beat the drop in the Serie A last season, is telling in terms of how much he has declined as a player.
