According to AS (03/02/23 as relayed by SportWitness), Tottenham Hotspur could challenge Atletico Madrid for Marcus Thuram’s signature in the summer transfer window.
Thuram has been in exceptional form for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, having found the back of the net 13 times across all competitions so far, and his contract at the Bundesliga club is set to run out in the summer (Transfermarkt).
Ahead of the January transfer window, it was reported that Spurs were one of a whole host of clubs eyeing a move for the Frenchman (90Min) but in the end, the player stayed put at Borussia Park.
AS now report that Atletico tried to snap up Thuram last month but were not willing to pay the €12m (£10.7m) that the German club demanded for the forward.
The report states that Diego Simeone’s side will now try to sign the Les Blues star on a free transfer in the summer but they are expected to face competition for his signature, with Tottenham also eyeing a move for the attacker.
The publication adds that Thuram is intent on joining a team in the Champions League in the summer, which means Antonio Conte’s men would have to finish in the top four to have a chance of winning the race for the forward.
Spurs Web Opinion
While it is clear that Lucas Moura will leave Spurs in the summer, the North London club’s decision on which attacker to pursue (if any at all) could depend on how Arnaut Danjuma does on loan for the next six months as well as on their decision on the future of Bryan Gil.
