Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus claimed that the club did not receive any offers for rumoured Tottenham target Marcus Thuram during the January transfer window.
Thuram has excelled in the centre-forward role for Gladbach this season, having scored 13 times and provided four assists across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).
Ahead of the January transfer window, it was reported that Spurs were one of a whole host of clubs eyeing a move for the Frenchman (90Min) but in the end, the player stayed put at Borussia Park.
Tottenham ended up snapping up Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal last month but the North London club have been backed to reignite their interest in the France international in the summer (AS – 03/02/23 via SportWitness).
Thuram will leave Gladbach on a free transfer in June if he does not sign a new deal before then but Virkus has insisted that the club were happy not to lose the 25-year-old in January.
He told the Bundesliga club’s official website: “If we look at the contracts of Ramy Bensebaini and Marcus Thuram, I can assure you that didn’t have any offers on the table for either player.
“As a result, we are pleased that both of them will be with us for the second half of the season and hopefully will be able to help us to achieve our aims with their footballing class.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The reason no club went in for Thuram in January is because of the fact that his contract runs out in the summer.
One would expect plenty of clubs to vie for the Frenchman’s signature at the end of the season and I am not convinced that he will want to come to Spurs, given the other attacking options at the club.
