Sport have revealed that Borussia Monchengladbach have accepted defeat in their attempts to tie down rumoured Tottenham target, Marcus Thuram, to a new contract.
Thuram has been one of the standout players in the Bundesliga this season, having adapted brilliantly to the centre-forward role since being asked to play down the middle.
The 25-year-old, who has found the back of the net 13 times across all competitions so far, will be a free agent in June if he does not sign a new contract at Gladbach over the coming months (Transfermarkt).
Ahead of the January transfer window, it was reported that Spurs were one of a whole host of clubs eyeing a move for the Frenchman (90Min) while it emerged last week that the Lilywhites may battle Atletico Madrid for the forward’s signature in the summer (AS 03/02/23 via by SportWitness).
Sport have now stated that Thuram looks set to be available for free at the end of the season after Gladbach ‘threw in the towel’ in their attempts to tie the player down to a new deal.
The publication reveals that Barcelona are keen on snapping up France international and are closely following his development and his contract situation.
The report names a whole host of other clubs who are also monitoring Thuram, including Chelsea, Newcastle, Arsenal and Aston Villa, but curiously, makes no mention of Spurs.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Thuram is available for free, plenty of La Liga clubs and Serie A clubs will likely queue up for the 25-year-old’s signature, given their financial situations.
The Frenchman will have his pick of over a dozen clubs, which would make it quite hard for Spurs to convince him, particularly given the attacking talent that we already have in our ranks.
