Borussia Monchengladbach’s director of football, Roland Virkus, has confirmed that rumoured Tottenham target, Marcus Thuram, will be leaving the club when his contract runs out this summer.
Thuram has been one of the best forwards on show in Germany this season, having found the back of the net 16 times so far this season (Transfermarkt).
With the prolific striker’s current deal running out in June, there has understandably been plenty of speculation about his future over recent months.
CalcioMercato reported last month that Tottenham and Manchester United have both reached out to the France international’s agent regarding a potential free transfer in the summer.
The interest from Spurs and the Red Devils in Thuram has also been backed up by 90 min, who reported previously that the two Premier League sides have sent representatives to Germany to run the rule over the player this season.
It remains to be seen where the 25-year-old will end up this summer but Virkus has confirmed that the striker will not be at Borussia Park next season.
The Gladbach director told the club’s official website about Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini: “We were in open discussions with both players and knew the situation.
“It’s a shame that they won’t be extending their current contracts, which expire in the summer because both of them have given us a lot from a sporting perspective over the past four years.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I fully expect Thuram to follow in his father’s footsteps and move to the Serie A this summer.
While he might be a tempting option for Spurs to go for if the club lose Harry Kane, I expect the North London club to fight hard to hang on to their talisman.
