Tottenham are set to beat a host of Premier League clubs to the signing of Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to 90min.
Spurs are on the verge of completing a £25 million deal to sign the Mali international, who has one year remaining on his contract at the Amex Stadium (The Times).
Bissouma is pencilled in to have a medical at the club’s Hotspur Way training centre on Thursday, where he could become Antonio Conte’s third summer signing after Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
But Tottenham’s potential acquisition of the 25-year-old has seen them have to fend off plenty of interest from other sides in the English top tier.
90min have revealed that Aston Villa previously submitted a formal offer while Newcastle made enquiries to Brighton, however, Bissouma himself preferred a move to a London club.
All of Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham reportedly held talks, but have now lost out to Spurs after the Lilywhites made the first move.
Bissouma started 26 games in the Premier League for Brighton last season (Transfermarkt) and played a key role in Graham Potter’s side securing a ninth-place finish. He even played and scored against Spurs during an FA Cup fourth-round defeat earlier this year.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham seem to have fended off plenty of clubs in the Premier League to Bissouma’s signature which shows how big of an acquisition this could be.
Spurs have needed to rebuild the midfield for quite a while and this signing will go a long way towards making that successful.
