The Sun’s Tom Barclay has revealed that Ange Postecoglou has made it clear to Yves Bissouma that he will be a key player in his regime.
Bissouma endured a disappointing first season at Tottenham, having struggled to break into the starting eleven for the first part of the campaign before missing a big chunk of the latter half of the season with an injury.
The 26-year-old never quite managed to win over Antonio Conte and struggled to showcase his qualities while operating in the Italian’s preferred two-man midfield.
The Mali international will hope to put things right this season and reports indicate that he has already won over Postecoglou and his coaching staff (Football.London).
Postecoglou is a big fan of Yves Bissouma already
Spurs fans will be hoping that Bissouma is able to replicate the performances he delivered at Brighton, and according to Barclay, the midfielder has been given a lot more responsibility by Postecoglou, who has asked him to set an example to the younger players in the squad.
The journalist said on Tottenham Way Podcast: “He (Bissouma) said he (Postecoglou) was almost like an Uncle or a Dad already, and that has been replicated with a few players, particularly with Bissouma.
“We understand that Ange has very much been getting onto him and telling him how much of a key player he sees him as and how much he wants Bissouma to set an example to the younger players.”
Spurs Web Opinion
From the training pictures and videos released by the club during pre-season, Bissouma certainly appears to be a lot more upbeat than he was under Antonio Conte last season.
That might have to do with the fact that the midfielder has grown in confidence as a result of being told by Postecoglou that he would be a key player.
