Joe Rodon has received rave reviews in the Welsh press after delivering an impressive display in their big win over Croatia on Sunday.

Rodon will be hoping to get his career back on track on loan at Leeds this season after struggling to get much of a look-in at Tottenham since joining the club three years ago.

The centre-back’s loan spell at Rennes last season did not go according to plan but he has seemingly made a promising start to his time at Elland Road.

The 25-year-old has quickly established himself as a mainstay in Daniel Farke’s backline and has received plenty of praise for some of his displays for the Whites (LeedsLive).

Joe Rodon continues to impress for Leeds and Wales

Rodon took his club form to the international scene, delivering a mature display at the back for Wales, who overcame Croatia 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium to pick up three crucial points in their Euro qualifier.

The on-loan Spurs man, who started in the middle of a back three that also consisted of Ben Davies, has been getting some positive press on the back of the performance.

Wales Online gave Rodon a rating of eight out of 10 and wrote about the centre-back: “Made a couple of really good defensive interventions. Dug in to help his side get the job done. Solid at the back all night.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Rodon’s decision to drop back down to the Championship in the summer was absolutely the right one as he needed regular game time under his belt to get his career back on track. Unsurprisingly, the 25-year-old appears to be getting better with each game that he plays.

Tottenham’s Ben Davies scores for Wales

The Tottenham man started at left centre-back as the Dragons lined up with a back three and he opened the scoring for his side on the night.

Davies met a looping corner at the far post to head home from close range on 22 minutes before Kieffer Moore netted a brace and Nathan Broadhead added another.

The international break is certainly vital for the likes of Davies and Hojbjerg to get minutes under their belt so that they remain sharp if and when called upon by Postecogou.

Wales manager Rob Page has insisted that the Welsh FA have been in close communication with Tottenham regarding Brennan Johnson, insisting that he was not prepared to risk the forward’s health.

Johnson has only started one game for Spurs since his summer switch from Nottingham Forest – the 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

The 22-year-old came off with a tight hamstring in the second half of that clash and has not featured since, with reports indicating that some at Tottenham are hopeful that he could be available for the clash against Fulham on October 23 (The Athletic).

The pacy youngster has not been picked in the Welsh squad for their upcoming friendly against Gibraltar on October 11 and their Euro qualifiers against Croatia on October 15.

Wales will not take any risks with Brennan Johnson

Being without their key attacker for the clash against the Croats comes as a major blow to the Dragons’ chances but Page remarked that Johnson’s health had to take precedence over everything else.

When asked about his decision to leave out the former Forest star, the Wales boss told The Daily Mail: “The communication between us and Tottenham has been first-class. It’s about having mutual respect. Both managers want a talented player fit so it’s about working together.

“I’m not going to insist that he has to come away and we’re going to play him, jeopardise his safety and health. I wouldn’t do that. But they also understand the importance of our games. We’ve had great conversations with them, but ultimately his injury will dictate whether he can meet up or not.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is refreshing to hear the manager put the player’s health first instead of risking him in a crucial game. This is in stark contrast to Lionel Scaloni, who has called up Giovani Lo Celso to the Argentine squad even though the midfielder has not kicked a ball in a month and a half.

Sky Sports Football Daily have revealed that Brennan Johnson has not been included in the Wales squad for the upcoming international break due to his injury.

Johnson made his debut for Tottenham in the North London Derby two weeks ago but the pacy wide-man was withdrawn midway into the second half with an injury.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold stated last week that the Welshman had suffered a tight hamstring at the Emirates and is not expected to be out of action for long.

In fact, the journalist even claimed that the 22-year-old had trained outdoors on the grass last week leading up to the clash against Liverpool.

Wales and Tottenham taking no chances on Johnson

However, Johnson was not fit enough to even make the bench against the Reds on Saturday, with Ange Postecoglou not providing much clarity on his injury.

It has now emerged that Wales manager Rob Page has left the youngster out of the squad for the Dragons’ upcoming clashes against Gibraltar and Croatia on October 11 and October 15 respectively.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Johnson is not included in the Wales squad, that means that is not going to be fit to play any part in the clash against Luton on Saturday. It seems like the 22-year-old’s hamstring problem might be a little more serious than it initially seemed.

Gareth Bale has said that the sky is the limit for Brennan Johnson following his big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Johnson linked up with his new teammates at Hotspur Way for the first time this week following his £47.5m switch from Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day.

It has been widely reported that he is a player that Ange Postecoglou was especially keen on adding to his squad, with The Telegraph even suggesting two weeks ago that Spurs believe that they have secured one of the best young talents across the Premier League.

Gareth Bale has high hopes for Brennan Johnson

There has been a lot said and written about which position Johnson would play in N17, with the 22-year-old being capable of operating across the front three or as an attacking midfielder.

Some in Wales see the former Forest star as the man who can eventually fill Bale’s shoes for the Dragons, and the Spurs legend is excited to see how the youngster will develop with the Lilywhites.

When asked about Johnson, the former Tottenham man told The Evening Standard: “He’s doing well, he’s doing well. I think the more he plays now in the top flight, the better he’ll get.

“As you said, the sky is the limit. I think as long as he’s playing football and improving, it’s good for Tottenham and it’s good for Wales also.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While one can understand the comparisons with Bale, given the Spurs and Wales connection, that is only likely to put more pressure on the 22-year-old’s shoulders.

However, in fairness, I think most of those comparisons are coming from the media rather than from Spurs fans, who, for the most part, acknowledge that Johnson is a very different sort of player from Bale and expect him to write his own story at the club.

While Brennan Johnson was unable to get on the scoresheet for Wales during the international break, his overall performance in the last game against Latvia was praised.

Wales decided to play Johnson in the lone striker role, a position that could be up for grabs at Spurs with Postecoglou already showing he is willing to rotate between Richarlison and Heung-min Son.

Johnson showed a willingness to run and press in the European Championship qualifying match, and his work in behind and with his back to goal was praised by the Welsh media.

The former Nottingham Forest man will have his very first Tottenham training session today as he travels to Hotspur Way to meet his new teammates.

It remains to be seen how soon Postecoglou will give the 22-year-old a chance to impress in the Spurs starting XI, but his ability to play anywhere across the front three will surely do him favours.

Brennan Johnson impresses with his Wales work

When reporting on Johnson’s contributions on Monday evening, WalesOnline gave the Spurs man a 7 out of 10 even though he didn’t have the biggest impact up front on his own.

The report said: “A real livewire who had a difficult task playing up front on his own.

“Had a good early chance, a one-v-one, which he skied.

“But general play, both with back to goal and running in behind, was top-notch.

“Could have been more clinical.”

WhoScored report that Johnson had 31 touches in the match, attempting three dribbles in that time. Only one of his five shots was on target and he played three key passes.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Johnson is the kind of player who impresses even when he has a poor game due to the sheer work he puts into every match, which I’m sure Postecoglou will love. Spurs have some real depth in that front line now.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has shown he can still be a valuable asset for the club, by impressing on international duty for Wales in the recent friendly against South Korea.

Ben Davies is now one of the longest-serving members of the Tottenham squad, having joined the club from Swansea in 2014.

The versatile defender has been a useful member of the Tottenham squad under various managers, and was particularly prominent during Antonio Conte‘s time at the club when he was utilised as a centre-back rather than his usual left-back role.

Ben Davies

Now, with Ange Postecoglou in charge of the Lilywhites, Davies has had to settle for two substitute appearances in the league so far this season. He did play the full 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup tie with Fulham recently, and was given the captain’s armband for the match.

This past weekend, Davies took to the field for his country and came up against Spurs teammate, Heung-min Son in the friendly clash between Wales and South Korea.

Davies is man-of-the-match for Wales

The press have been very impressed with Davies’ latest performance, as he kept his club captain quiet all night to help Wales to a 0-0 draw against the Asian side.

Davies was given a rating of 7 out of 10 and named the star man on the night by Wales Online, who wrote: “Felt like he was everywhere at times. Did his job defensively with minimal fuss and showed little fear in getting forward. A really good performance.”

According to Pundit Feed, Davies was “the most composed of the three Welsh centre-backs.” His display earned him an 8 out of 10 from that particular outlet.

Spurs Web Opinion

We are pretty fortunate to have such a reliable defender in our squad, and a player who appears to understand that he is essentially defensive cover rather than a first-team regular.

If one of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were to get injured, I would feel more comfortable using Ben Davies, than Eric Dier, that’s for sure.

Wales manager Rob Page has insisted that Brennan Johnson is ready to make the step up to a top club, remarking that the versatile attacker should not think twice about making the switch to Tottenham.

Over the past 24 hours, it has been widely reported that Spurs are expected to launch an offer for Johnson before tonight’s transfer deadline, with the 22-year-old said to be keen on making the switch to the Lilywhites (Telegraph).

The Evening Standard stated last evening that the North London club remain hopeful that Nottingham Forest, who are demanding £50m for the player, will soften their stance before the deadline.

Page believes that Johnson is ready to cope with the pressure that comes with a potential move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Rob Page thinks Brennan Johnson is ready for Spurs

When asked about the forward potentially replacing Harry Kane, he said (via TEAMtalk): “I wouldn’t even talk about the Harry Kane situation and going in to fill that. He’s his own person and player, a different type of player. I think he’s just got to go.”

Page asserted that Johnson has the confidence needed to perform at the highest level, also revealing that the Forest star is quite a grounded individual.

He continued: “Young players today – and Brennan falls into this category – are a confident breed and he’s more than capable of playing at that level.

“I think Brennan has a good support network around him. I know his dad (David), who used to play so he’s been through all this himself. You need that network as a young lad. I don’t believe he will get carried with it. He will stay grounded and won’t change.”

However, the 48-year-old did point out that Johnson is not a like-for-like replacement for Tottenham’s record goalscorer.

When asked about the difficulty of filling Kane’s shoes, Page responded: “You don’t go into a club expecting to fill somebody else’s boots. He’s a very different player to Harry and, if he goes there, it is on his own ability and what he can offer to the team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Forest will not be too happy with Page insisting on Johnson taking the opportunity to go to Spurs. However, the communication coming from all parties, including Steve Cooper, suggests that the deal is likely to be completed before tonight’s deadline.

Joe Rodon will have important decisions to make this summer about his future, and Wales boss Robert Page has offered an insight into what the player will prioritise if given the choice.

Since joining Tottenham in 2020, Rodon has barely been given a chance in the first team at Spurs. He has just 24 appearances for the Lilywhites during his time in North London (Transfermarkt).

Joe Rodon

Chloe Knott – Danehouse/Getty Images

The Welshman spent the 2022/23 campaign in France on loan at Stade Rennais. Despite a promising start to his time in Ligue 1, Rodon ended up making only 22 appearances for Rennes, and was only used twice in the final 15 games of the season (Transfermarkt).

It will come as no surprise, then, that Rennes have not taken up the option to sign Rodon on a permanent basis after his loan spell came to an end.

Now back at Tottenham Hotspur for the summer, and with a new manager to impress, it remains to be seen whether Joe Rodon will be part of Ange Postecoglou‘s plans or not.

Joe Rodon will want to play week in, week out

Speaking to The Sun about his international player, Wales boss Robert Page insisted that Rodon will be looking for regular first-team football next season even if it means leaving Spurs.

He said: “He will want to play games because I know him as a character. He’ll want to play week in, week out. That’s up to the club now.

“I’d imagine he will do a pre-season there and then they will make a decision on what’s best for him next year. If we can have a little bit of input in that then great.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Sadly, I can’t see Joe Rodon having a future at Tottenham. He is a good player but we already have better options at the club and should hopefully be signing at least one more high-quality centre-back this summer.

The 30-year-old has amassed 108 caps for his country, scoring 35 goals (Transfermarkt) and is regarded as a hero in his home nation.

South Korea are adapting to life under a new manager, after Spurs legend Jurgen Klinsmann replaced Paulo Bento in the aftermath of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Wales will host the Asian side in a friendly on September 7, 2023 and the fixture will be played at the Cardiff Stadium.

Speaking to The Sun about the fixture, Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney was full of praise for the upcoming opponents.

He said: “Many teams are tied up in Europe with qualifiers and it’s not always easy to get strong opposition during the few occasions we get the chance to play friendlies.

“So to have the likes of Son Heung-min – Ben Davies’ teammate at Spurs – and many other high-quality players coming to Cardiff is great for us.”

On the benefits of playing South Korea, Mooney added: “They had a really good World Cup getting to the knockout stage and it’s important we keep testing ourselves against different styles of football.

“South Korea offers us a really interesting chance to do that, and I’m sure we’ll have another great crowd to cheer on Cymru before the ‘Red Wall’ head for Riga a few days later [for the game against Latvia]”

Spurs Web Opinion

It will be interesting to see these two very different teams come up against one another for the first time, and the game should pose a great challenge for both sets of players.

Davies was at fault for England’s second as the Tottenham man conceded possession in his own third, with his Spurs teammate Harry Kane being on hand to capitalise by producing a perfect ball across the face of goal for Phil Foden to tap home at the far post.

It was an evening to forget for the former Swansea man, who came off injured in the 59th minute of the encounter. Neville was critical of Davies for giving away the ball in such a dangerous area.

While analysing England’s second goal, the pundit said on ITV Sports World Cup coverage (29/11/22 from 20:00 onwards): “What I like about Foden is his aggressive position. The ball is on this side of the pitch (England’s attacking right with Kane).

“He’s tucked in. He’s left Roberts the fullback outside. Obviously, Ben Davies had a nightmare (losing the ball). But Phil Foden deserved that (his goal).”

Spurs Web Opinion

It has been a World Cup campaign to forget for Wales and Davies. Robert Page’s men were arguably favourites to qualify from Group B along with England but they just never got going. To exit the tournament with just one point, having not scored from open play while having conceded six, is indefensibly poor.

Ben Davies came off with an injury just before the hour-mark as Wales were knocked out of the World Cup by England on Tuesday.

Wales needed to win against the Three Lions to have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the World Cup and they defended resolutely in the first half and managed to hold the fort until the interval.

However, the floodgates opened at the start of the second half when Marcus Rashford found the top corner with a free-kick in the 59th minute before Phil Foden doubled England’s lead a little over a minute later, tapping home Harry Kane’s cross at the far post.

Davies was replaced by Portsmouth midfielder Joe Morrell in the 59th minute and the Tottenham man was seen limping off the pitch.

The 28-year-old will have more than three weeks to recover, with Spurs resuming their Premier League campaign with a clash against Brentford on Boxing Day.

Rashford then added his second and England’s third on the night after 68 minutes as Gareth Southgate’s men marched on to the round of 16 stage in style.

Spurs Web Opinion

The injury did not seem particularly serious and the fact that Davies will have almost a month to recover before the season gets underway means that there is nothing to worry about. Besides, Lenglet has shown that he is more than capable of covering for the Welshman.

Ben Davies has claimed that Wales will head into their final group game against England believing they can get all three points.

After the first round of games in Group B, which saw England demolish Iran, and Wales play out a 1-1 draw with the United States, most people would have expected the Three Lions to seal the top spot, and for the Dragons and Americans to battle it out for second place.

(Photo by Markus Gilliar – GES Sportfoto/Getty Images)

However, England were held to a draw by the USA in their second game while Wales fell to a shock 2-0 defeat to Iran, thus leaving the group wide open.

Going into the final game against England, Robert Page’s men need to get three points to have any chance of qualifying, and Davies believes that Wales can take confidence from the performance the United States produced against Garth Southgate’s side on Friday.

The defender told The Sun ahead of Tuesday’s clash: “We have to maybe look at what the USA did well to try and gain some sort of advantage. America played a very good game against England, and it’s not exactly like they’re a bad team.

“They caused England problems just like England caused America problems. It was quite an even game and it was probably one where no team gave too much away.”

Davies pointed out that Wales have nothing to lose going into the clash against England and insisted he and his teammates are more than capable of an upset.

He added: “They are a good team and have shown that in recent years. But we have to hope we can do something special against them.”

“We’ve performed well when we’ve had our backs against the wall in the past. We really have got nothing to lose now, we have to go out there and give the best side of ourselves.”

When asked about going up against his Spurs teammate Harry Kane, the 29-year-old responded: “Harry’s a world-class player and one of the best in the world so he’s going to make any team better. Whoever we’re up against, we’re facing a team of world-class players.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Group B is fascinatingly poised ahead of the final round of matches, with all four teams having a realistic shot of qualifying for the knockout stages. While England have a lot more quality than Wales, the pressure that the Three Lions are under could work in the favour of Robert Page’s men, particularly if the Dragons score first.

The 2022 World Cup kicks off in Qatar this Sunday, and while the tournament has not been without its issues, there will still be a great demand to see our favourite players in action through the course of the competition.

Spurs have a total of 12 players out in Qatar representing their countries, with the likes of Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane, and Heung-min Son set to captain France, England, and South Korea respectively.

Kane will be joined by Eric Dier on England duty, while fellow defender Cristian Romero will represent Argentina. Ivan Perisic will turn out once again for Croatia, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is in Qatar with Denmark, and Rodrigo Bentancur will be hoping to carry on his great form with Uruguay.

Both Ben Davies and Joe Rodon, currently on loan at French side Rennes, will represent Wales at their first World Cup since 1958. Elsewhere, Richarlison will lead the line for Brazil, and youngster Pape Matar Sarr will be looking to make an impact with Senegal.

So, here’s when you can catch any and all of these Spurs players in action during the World Cup group stages.

Ben Davies experienced the wrath of Joe Rodon on Wales duty this week when he ruffled the on-loan Tottenham defender’s hair just before the national team photo was set to take place to document those who are heading to the World Cup in Qatar.

In a video released by Wales’ official Twitter account, the squad could be seen ironically applauding as Rodon emerged late for the team photo, likely because he had been fixing his hair.

In order to put him in his place, Ben Davies took the opportunity to mess his fellow Welshman’s hairdo up again, much to the amusement of Gareth Bale and co.

Check out the video of the incident below:

Spurs Web Opinion:

It has been a tough season for Joe Rodon, which is understandable as he has moved to a new country and a new league. It often takes some adjusting to the different play style, but I fully expect him to become a top-level centre-back in the future.

Wales will be of benefit of the fact that Rodon has been playing regularly for Rennes and will come into the tournament in much better condition than if he remained on the sidelines in north London.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon has spoken about his decision to leave the club for a season-long loan in France this summer, and cites the upcoming World Cup as a big factor.

Rodon joined Spurs in October 2020, but has made just 24 appearances for the club (Transfermarkt). Despite clearly having talent, the Welshman has never quite reached his potential in North London.

The decision was made to loan Rodon to Ligue 1 side Rennes this summer, and a permanent move could be secured for a fee of £16.7 million (Football.London).

Rodon has had a difficult start to life in France, with media outlet Maxi Foot criticising his early performances for Rennes. Things are looking up though, and Rodon was even named man of the match in a recent draw against Marseille.

As Rodon prepares for international duty with Wales, and looks ahead to the winter World Cup in Qatar, he has spoken about the reasons behind his decision to swap North London for the East of France (Wales Online).

He said: “I speak to [Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey] a lot and they give me advice and guidance along the way. I am thankful for that. I can always reach out to them because they are top professionals and brilliant senior players.

“I can only look up to them and whatever advice they give can only benefit me along the way. Of course, no player wants to be going to a World Cup, having hardly played a minute of football. As everyone is aware, I haven’t played that much over the last two years.

“I think it was really important for me and my development to be exposed and be put in a position where I play a lot of games. That will improve me and give me more confidence.

“I’ve settled well. The first couple of weeks are obviously going to be challenging and different but as they’ve gone on, it’s got better and better.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Joe Rodon clearly wasn’t going to get much game time at Tottenham Hotspur this season, so he made the right decision to get first-team football elsewhere, and a move to a different country can be hugely rewarding for a young player too.

He’s a talented player, and hopefully there is a future for him at Spurs. But if not, it’s hoped he can do a good job out in France and secure a permanent move elsewhere that will benefit him.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has been criticised by Wales boss Rob Page for the lack of game time given to defender Joe Rodon at Spurs.

Rodon signed for Spurs in October 2020, but never managed to establish himself in the first team, despite early promise. The Welsh defender has made just 24 appearances for the North London side (Transfermarkt).

Since Conte’s arrival at Tottenham back in November 2021, Rodon has found himself on the peripheries of the Spurs squad more and more. He joined French side Rennes on a season-long loan this summer (TottenhamHotspur.com).

Reports suggest that move could be made permanent too, with Football.London citing a £16.7 million purchase option as part of the agreement.

Despite scoring a goal early in his Rennes career, Rodon has since been criticised for a poor performance against Troyes on September 6, with French outlet Maxi Foot giving the defender a 4/10 score for his display.

His international career has been far more plain sailing though, with 27 caps to his name already (Transfermarkt). Rodon is clearly a big part of Wales boss Rob Page’s plans as he prepares for the imminent World Cup this winter.

Speaking to The Independent, Page was critical of Antonio Conte’s usage of Rodon during his reign, and claimed he ‘hated’ seeing the defender sitting on the Spurs bench.

He said: “I hated seeing Joe on the bench every week because he’s such a wonderful talent. I’ve worked with him for years with the U21’s and seen his potential. There’s better to come. Going out to play games now will help him achieve that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I really like Joe Rodon. I think he’s a solid ball-playing defender who has a lot of potential still to develop his game and become a top centre-back.

It’s great to see him getting the chance to show what he can do out in France, and I’m sure he will impress again on the international stage.

Whether he has a future at Spurs or not remains to be seen, but I would love to see him get an opportunity to learn from Antonio Conte at some point.

Joe Rodon was withdrawn after seemingly picking up an injury in Wales’ 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Rodon did not start a single Premier League game for Tottenham throughout the 2021/22 campaign (Transfermarkt) and struggled to get a look in after Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm in November of last year.

However, the former Swansea man has continued impressing for Wales in the middle of their back three, with his solid display against the Ukrainians two weeks ago helping the Dragons book a place in the Qatar World cup.

The 24-year-old is one of several players who Spurs are expected to cash in on this summer, with the North London club allegedly looking to bring in two new centre-backs (Football.London).

Rodon started for Wales in their Nations League clash against the Dutch yesterday but hobbled off the pitch in the 67th minute with a thigh problem and was replaced by former Spurs defender Chris Gunter.

Meanwhile, Ben Davies played all ninety minutes for Robert Page’s side while Steven Bergwijn had a cameo for the Dutch after coming on for Noa Lang on 73 minutes.

Spurs Web Opinion

Both Spurs and Rodon will be hoping that the injury is not serious as that could derail a potential summer move. I suspect that the centre-back was only taken off as a precaution rather than it being a case of him not being able to continue. We should get more information on this within the next day or two.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Wales’ Nations League clash with Belgium on Saturday, Gareth Bale ruled out Getafe as a candidate for his next club.

Since Bale’s six-year contract at La Liga champions Real Madrid expired on the 30th of June (TransferMarkt), the 32-year-old’s future has been a hot topic.

Despite scoring 106 goals and providing 67 assists in 258 games for Los Blancos (TransferMarkt), Bale has been consigned mostly to the bench at the Santiago Bernabeu this season.

Some reports initially suggested that Bale could return to Tottenham for a third spell (El Nacional), while his agent confirmed a move to British football was likely (Record via Eurosport).

However, Alasdair Gold and The Telegraph have both claimed Tottenham are unlikely to re-sign the Welsh wizard this summer.

Getafe’s club president strangely came out and revealed he had been offered Bale by the winger’s agent this week (Onda Cero), only for this to be rubbished by Gareth’s representatives (Fabrizio Romano).

When probed about where his future lies, Bale said (Evening Standard): “A club [where] I’m going to play regular football.
“When I get back into playing regular football my body will get a bit more robust – rather than in and out [of the team]. It’s very difficult to get a rhythm in terms of your fitness, your health.

“Any player will tell you that playing week in, week out: your body becomes more robust, you get used to it and fitter. So [I] just need to play games and then good to go.

“Hopefully I can enjoy my holiday and then decide where I want to be and what I want to do, to try and be playing games to be as fit as I can for the World Cup.”

“I’m not going to Getafe, that’s for sure.”

Spurs Web Opinion
Without sounding too nostalgic, I would jump at the chance of taking Bale back for another year. He has proven recently with Wales that he is capable of moments of sheer brilliance and with Spurs potentially playing more games next season, he would be a really dangerous option.
Plus, with Antonio Conte’s infamously gruelling fitness regime, Bale would be at peak physicality for Wales’ world cup endeavours in November.

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has been praised by the media for his display as Wales booked their place at the 2022 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Ukraine.

The Dragons qualified for the tournament for the first time since 1958 courtesy of Gareth Bale’s deflected free-kick, which was redirected in by Andriy Yarmolenko.

Rob Page’s side were required to dig deep in Cardiff and had to rely on their defence on plenty of occasions to keep out an onslaught of Ukraine attacks.

Davies in particular was kept busy in the second and was forced into a number of blocks and last-ditch tackles to preserve his side’s slender lead.

The Spurs man’s inch perfect performance in central defence was enough to earn him a 10/10 rating from Welsh publication Wales Online, who labelled the display ‘fearless’.

They wrote: “Just so calm and composed. A colossus. Won every tackle, every aerial duel, perhaps won his side the game too. Last-ditch intervention to keep out Tsygankov was superb. The fearless leader of a defence under intense Ukraine pressure.”

With a trip to Qatar secured, Davies and Wales will now be preparing for the group stage as they join England, Iran and USA in Group B. Their opening match is set to be against USA on November 21 at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan (Independent).

Spurs Web Opinion

Davies has been so good for Spurs since Antonio Conte came into the club and he managed to carry over that form into the World Cup play-off.

His display was so good and he was a big reason why Wales were able to keep hold of that precious lead, even when they were up against the intense Ukraine pressure.
