Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to report that Tottenham are now ‘close’ to agreeing a deal for Micky Van de Ven with Wolfsburg.

Negotiations are said to be ‘underway’ with talks on Monday being ‘really positive’ between the two clubs. An agreement between Spurs and Wolfsburg on the price is said to be close.

This matches up with the recent The Athletic report which stated Spurs were getting closer to landing the young, Dutch central defender.

However, Tottenham are also said to be interested in Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen (Alasdair Gold) and Romano previously reported it was a case of one or the other.

Despite his most recent claim, Romano also stated last week that Tapsoba was Tottenham’s top target for the centre-back role, but the deal depends on his price tag.

Now it appears Spurs are close to striking a deal for Van de Ven, with more news expected to follow.

Spurs Web Opinion:

It could be a case of getting the Ven de Ven deal in the bag and then working on Tapsoba some more to see if a good price can be agreed there – much like Paratici used to do at Spurs.

The thing that worries me is if Tottenham sign Van de Ven and Clement Lenglet to fix their centre-back problems, they may be in for a harsh awakening next season.
