It has emerged that Tottenham Hotspur could end up paying even more for Micky van de Ven if they are to qualify for the Champions League come the end of the season.

Micky van de Ven was signed by Ange Postecoglou this summer in a deal worth an initial £34m (Sky Sports). He was regarded as the solution to all of Tottenham’s defensive issues, which sounds like a lot of pressure to put on a 22-year-old, but the Dutchman has thrived in North London so far.

Alongside Cristian Romero, van de Ven is now part of what appears to be one of the strongest centre-back pairings in the Premier League.

Spurs are currently unbeaten after eight games in the league this season and sit at the top of the table. It’s early days, of course, but there is now talk of the Lilywhites aiming high this term.

Micky Van de Ven’s price could go up for Spurs

A title challenge may be a stretch, but a top-four finish and Champions League football is certainly looking promising for Spurs. But, such an achievement will cost them.

That’s according to Sport BILD (via Sport Witness), with a report claiming Tottenham will have to pay Wolfsburg a further €10m (£8.6m) if they qualify for the Champions League, as part of the deal to sign van de Ven.

Apparently, this was one of the add-on clauses in the transfer, and Wolfsburg are now keeping an eye on Tottenham’s progress this season. It is said that if Spurs “continue to be so successful,” the German club will benefit financially, quicker than originally anticipated.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if we have to pay this sum, Micky van de Ven is worth it. He’s had a fantastic start at Spurs, and any success we achieve this season will be, in part, down to the incredible combination at the back of van de Ven and Romero.

VfL Wolfsburg’s chairman of the Supervisory Board, Frank Witter, has said that it hurt to let Micky van de Ven go but admitted that it was the way the football business works.

Van de Ven arrived at Tottenham as a relative unknown to Premier League fans, with Spurs paying £43m for the centre-back on the back of his impressive debut season in the Bundesliga.

At the time, some Spurs fans might have preferred that the Lilywhites go for Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, who was also linked with a move to N17 (90 min), over the Dutchman.

However, the 22-year-old has surprised everyone with how quickly he has settled into the Premier League and adapted to Ange Postecolou’s system, having already formed a solid partnership at the back with Cristian Romero.

Wolfsburg were sad to see Micky Van de Ven go

The fee that Tottenham paid for Van de Ven now looks to be a bargain, with the youngster showing shades of Jan Vertonghen with his defensive solidity and his quality on the ball.

When asked about Wolfsburg’s decision to sell the centre-back, Witter has now told Kicker (as relayed by Sport Witness): “The fact that they are gone hurts the sport at first, but that’s just business.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Van de Ven’s age and potential as well as the fact that a left centre-back was Tottenham’s number-one priority in the summer, one can make the case that the Dutchman was the club’s signing of the summer, even ahead of James Maddison.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of central defender Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.

The Netherlands Under-21 centre-half was in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Sunday’s 5-1 win against Shakhtar Donetsk as part of the club’s fundraiser for Shakhtar’s charitable foundation, Shakhtar Social, in support of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine as a result of the armed conflict with Russia.

Having signed a six-year contract in North London, the deal is said to be worth £43million (Evening Standard) as part of Ange Postecoglou’s new look side.

Spurs confirm Micky van de Ven transfer

He becomes Tottenham’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window following the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Ashley Phillips along with Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski turning their respective loan moves into permanent deals.

The Dutchman made 33 Bundesliga appearances last season, helping Wolfsburg finish to finish eighth.

He will not take to the field in tonight’s pre-season friendly against Barcelona as he, along with Alejo Veliz are still awaiting their work permits (Evening Standard).

SpursWeb Opinion

Tottenham have now added some much-needed pace to their backline with van der Ven ranked by the Bundesliga last season as the quickest centre-back in the German top flight.

Defensive woes were clear to see during the 2022/23 campaign with the club having conceded more goals (63) than any other team in the top half of the last season’s Premier League table.

Spurs negotiate favourable terms for Van de Ven

The Times now report that Spurs will pay €30m for the Netherlands U21 international, as well as another €20m (£17.3m) if ‘various clauses are met’.

Van de Ven was spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch his new side beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 yesterday in a pre-season friendly, and is scheduled to have his medical today.

The centre-back would become signing number six for the Lilywhites, after Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro’s loans were turned into permanent deals, and James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Manor Solomon were welcomed through the Hotspur Way doors.

Spurs Web Opinion:

The total fee may be higher than some were expecting, but the terms seem very favourable for Spurs. I would imagine that even the main fee will be paid over a number of years too. All that matters is Ange Postecoglou finally has his new centre-back in before the season starts.

The report claims that Tottenham and Van de Ven came to an agreement on a five-year contract more than a month ago, but it took until now for the Lilywhites and Wolfsburg to shake hands on a fee.

Micky Van de Ven is almost a Tottenham player

David Ornstein took to Twitter yesterday to report that Spurs were ‘on the verge’ of agreeing a £43m deal, including add-ons, for the Wolfsburg star.

Fabrizio Romano added that a deal to bring the Netherlands U21 international to North London was ‘almost there’.

Van de Ven would become Tottenham’s seventh signing of the summer, after James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Manor Solomon, Ashley Phillips, and permanent deals for Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Micky Van de Ven may now have a slim chance of starting the match against Brentford in a week or so. There is also the possibility that Ange Postecoglou may stick with someone like Ben Davies alongside Cristian Romero for the first game, if the Dutchman is not yet up to speed.

Micky van de Ven is expected to travel to London in the next 24 hours for his medical with Tottenham Hotspur, as Fabrizio Romano has finally declared we have a ‘Here we go’ on the defender’s move to Spurs.

Tottenham’s defensive struggles have been highlighted once again during pre-season, and the club has been crying out for reinforcements at the back for a long time now.

For the entirety of the summer, Wolfsburg centre-half Micky van de Ven has been touted as one of the top targets for the North London club.

The 22-year-old, and fellow Bundesliga defender Edmond Tapsoba, have both been identified by Spurs as a perfect fit for their system, thanks to data analysis (Football.London).

Despite ongoing negotiations that have dragged on for weeks, there have been positive developments over the last 24 hours or so.

David Ornstein wrote for The Athletic that a deal worth €50m (£43.1m) inc add-ons for van de Ven was ‘on the verge’ of being completed.

Van de Ven could become Tottenham’s sixth signing of the summer after Dejan Kulusevsi and Pedro Porro’s loans both became permanent, alongside deals for James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Manor Solomon.

Here we go announced for Van de Ven deal

Now, Fabrizio Romano has given the move his iconic ‘Here we go’ declaration, with the transfer expert revealing the young Dutch defender will travel for his medical ‘in the next 24 hours.’

Romano said: “Micky van de Ven to Tottenham, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for €50m package add-ons included, Dutch CB to travel in the next 24h for medical. Contract agreed until 2028, deal done with José Fortes Rodriguez from Raiola. Wolfsburg set to prepare documents soon.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We will wait until we see Micky van de Ven in a Spurs shirt before we get too excited, but this is amazing news and once he is through the door, we can really focus on adding further depth to the defence or other areas of the pitch.

Adding a player of this quality to our squad is huge, and is one of the most promising signings we have made in quite some time.

Multiple sources, including Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, are now reporting that a deal to bring Micky van De Ven to Tottenham is on the cusp of going through.

There has been plenty of speculation over the last month linking Van de Ven with a move to Tottenham and it now appears as if the move is finally materialising.

Ornstein has now reported in The Athletic that the Dutchman is set to become Spurs’ sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Manor Solomon, as well as the permanent deals for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro.

The journalist added that Tottenham are now ‘on the verge’ of selling an agreement worth €50m (£43m) including add-ons for the Netherlands Under-21 international.

Micky Van de Ven is closer to Spurs move than ever

Ornstein stated that once the final details are complete, Van de Ven will travel to Hotspur Way to complete his medical and sign a long-term contract.

Meanwhile, Romano has also taken to social media to state that a deal to take the centre-back to Spurs is now ‘almost there’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Now that the Van de Ven deal is all but wrapped up, the next 24 hours will be quite telling in terms of Tottenham’s plans for the centre-back role.

If Spurs continue negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen over Edmond Taposba, that would be incontrovertible evidence that the club want to sign both players.

According to the PA news agency (via Yahoo Sports), there is now a belief at Tottenham Hotspur that Micky van de Ven will be a Spurs player before the club’s Premier League season opener against Brentford.

There appears to have been some significant breakthrough in Tottenham’s talks with Wolfsburg over Van de Ven over the last couple of days, with multiple outlets reporting over the last 48 hours that a deal is now close (Daily Mail).

Micky van de Ven looks dejected

However, Fabrizio Romano clarified on Thursday that the deal is not quite done just yet as there remains a distance between the two clubs’ valuations.

He explained that Spurs sent a proposal of €40m (£34.4m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the centre-back while the Bundesliga side are demanding a total package of €50m (£43m) with easier add-ons.

Van de Ven expected to be completed within a week

According to PA Sports’ update, the two clubs are ‘advancing’ over the transfer of Van de Ven even though there is no final agreement on the fee just yet.

It is revealed that Ange Postecoglou gave the green light to sign the Dutchman as soon as he arrived at Spurs and that the dialogue between the clubs regarding the 22-year-old started last month.

The report asserts that there is now a growing confidence that Van de Ven will be a Tottenham player before the Lilywhites begin their new campaign.

Spurs Web Opinion

Postecoglou would have wanted this deal completed much quicker, given that centre-back was evidently a priority area to strengthen.

Even if Van de Ven arrives within the next few days, he is unlikely to play any part in the Brentford game as he would have not had more than a couple of training sessions with the squad.

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham have agreed a £30m deal in principle with Wolfsburg for the transfer of Micky van de Ven.

It was reported by Fabrizio Romano on Thursday that the deal to take Van de Ven to Spurs is not quite a done deal, with the two parties still yet to agree on a fee.

He explained that Spurs sent a proposal of €40m (£34.4m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the centre-back while the Bundesliga side are demanding a total package of €50m (£43m) with easier add-ons.

This was also backed up by Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, who claimed that Wolfsburg are not willing to relax their asking price of €50m (£43m) for the 22-year-old.

Deal agreed in principle for Micky Van de Ven

However, if Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, Tottenham have now agreed a £30m deal with the German club, with the final documents being exchanged ahead of the transfer.

It is revealed that personal terms are not expected to be an issue as Spurs already have a verbal agreement in place with the 22-year-old, who will now be offered a long-term contract by the North London club.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite interesting that Spurs are seemingly continuing talks over a deal for Edmond Taposba despite being on the verge of signing Van de Ven. That suggests that Tottenham have now changed their plans and are going after both central defenders.

According to Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung (translated by Sport Witness), Wolfsburg have no intention of relaxing their demands for Micky van de Ven and are continuing to drive a hard bargain amidst Tottenham’s advances.

Multiple reports over the last 48 hours have claimed that Van de Ven is now on the verge of sealing a switch to Tottenham (Daily Mail).

However, this information was contradicted by Fabrizio Romano, who reported on Thursday that there is still a difference between Spurs’ and Wolfsburg’s valuation of the centre-back.

The journalist added that the Bundesliga club are demanding a total package of €50m (£43m) with easier add-ons for the 22-year-old.

Wolfsburg unrelenting in Van de Ven asking price

Romano’s claim has now been backed up by WAZ, who state that the German club have set a ‘hard and inflexible line’ in the negotiations over Van de Ven.

They state that despite the fact that Tottenham have been trying for weeks to lure the centre-back to England, the North London club have not matched Wolfsburg’s demands for the player.

It is claimed that the Lilywhites’ initial bid for Van de Ven is only worth around €30m (£25.8m), which the German side have no intention of accepting.

The Bundesliga club’s hierarchy are alleged to have made it clear to Spurs that the player will only be allowed to leave if their €50m (£43m) asking price is met, with Daniel Levy expected to make a decision ‘shortly’ on the matter.

Spurs Web Opinion

This update seems to contradict what has been reported by various British outlets over the last 24 hours, many of whom are confident that it is only a matter of time before Van de Ven’s move to Spurs is made official. Perhaps we will have a little more clarity about where this move stands over the next day or two.

Tottenham Hotspur have already agreed a six-year contract with Micky van de Ven ahead of a move to the club, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The North Londoners are still in talks with Wolfsburg to agree on a deal for the 22-year-old and the defender is said to be waiting for the move to come to fruition.

An agreement between the two clubs is said to be ‘close to the finish line’ after Tottenham tabled a €40m (£34.4m) offer along with a further €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses to the Bundesliga outfit.

The talks with the German side come as a ‘relaunch’ for Tottenham’s intent to sign the Dutch Under-21 international as part of Ange Postecoglou‘s wish to bolster his defensive options and should they land van de Ven, he will be rewarded with a long-term contract in N17.

Postecoglou told Football.London last month: “Some of it I had identified early on. I don’t think it’s any secret about some of the areas we needed to strengthen. The goalkeeper was one and central defence is another.”

SpursWeb Opinion

With Tottenham set to kick off their Premier League campaign at Brentford in just nine days, time is ticking for Daniel Levy to get a deal over the line to at least allow van de Ven a few days to settle into his new surroundings.

Some Spurs fans are losing patience at just how long the central defensive search is taking, especially considering it is not a new issue.

The number of goals conceded in the Premier League last season was enough evidence for the recruitment team to have these targets further down the line; Edmond Tapsoba being another prime example.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham have not yet been able to meet Wolfsburg’s valuation of Micky van de Ven.

There have been some positive updates regarding Spurs‘ pursuit of Van de Ven in the last 24 hours, with The Daily Mail reporting that the Lilywhites have held positive talks with Wolfsburg over the centre-back and are increasingly hopeful of striking a deal for the Dutch Under-21 international.

This was also backed up by The Evening Standard, who asserted that Tottenham are now ‘closing in’ on a £30m deal for the centre-back.

Micky van de Ven looks dejected

Distance remains between parties for Van de Ven

However, Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that there is still a distance between what Tottenham are willing to offer and the fee Wolfsburg are demanding for Van de Ven.

He explained that Spurs sent a proposal of €40m (£34.4m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the centre-back while the Bundesliga side are demanding a total package of €50m (£43m) with easier add-ons.

Romano added that Tottenham will also continue to work on a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Spurs have seemingly halted their pursuit of Tosin Adarabioyo, suggests that they might be looking to sign both Van de Ven and Taspoba. That could potentially indicate that they expect Kane’s move to Bayern to go through.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now on the verge of agreeing a £30m deal for Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven.

After weeks of speculation, it seems like Spurs are finally on the cusp of strengthening at left centre-back, which was seen by many as a priority area to address coming into this transfer window after last season’s defensive woes ended up being costly with an eighth place finish in the Premier League table.

Fabrizio Romano took to social media on Wednesday to reveal that Tottenham were close to reaching an agreement over the signing of van de Ven, with the journalist adding that negotiations are now at the final stages.

van de Ven transfer expected to be worth £30m

This has now also been backed up by The Mail, who reveal that the North London club held ‘positive’ talks with the Wolfsburg hierarchy overa deal for the centre-back on Wednesday.

The report states that Spurs are now ‘hopeful’ of sealing a £30m deal for the Dutch Under-21 international, who has been on their radar for some time.

The publication adds that van de Ven was also previously of interest to Liverpool but Tottenham now ‘appear to have got the deal over the line’.

Spurs Web Opinion

The pace at which Spurs have seemingly moved over the last 24 to 48 hours suggests that these deals (Van de Ven, Ashley Phillips and Alejo Veliz) were put on hold due to the Harry Kane negotiations with Bayern.

The fact that Tottenham are now pushing ahead with these moves could mean that there has been a breakthrough in talks between them and Bayern for the England captain.

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a deal for Wolfsburg central defender Micky van de Ven, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Dutch Under-21 international has already agreed personal terms with the North Londoners and an agreement between the two clubs is now reaching the final stages of talks.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou admitted during the club’s tour of Asia-Pacific that the club were working hard on trying to bolster his options in the backline and refused to reveal any frustration in the delay in getting a deal over the line.

He told Football.London: “No, it’s just the football world, mate. I’ve been in it a long time. I wish it could be like my wife with Amazon where we get deliveries everyday mate. But I can’t put one in and get it the next day, unfortunately.

“It’s just the way of the football world so no frustration, just keep working hard to try and get it done.”

Tottenham close to deal for van de Ven

Romano wrote on Twitter/X: “Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement with Wolfsburg for Micky Van de Ven! Deal advancing to final stages now.

“There are still details to sort but talks underway — agreement could be done soon.  Personal terms, 100% agreed.”

The Athletic claimed late last month that a deal for the jet-heeled defender was not advancing in which it was reported an agreement between the two clubs was not yet close but could be resurrected.

SpursWeb Opinion

With just 11 days to go until Tottenham kick off their Premier League campaign at Brentford, some fans have been losing patience at just how long they will have to wait for defensive reinforcements.

Hopefully, negotiations can be concluded swiftly to at least allow van de Ven the opportunity to line up against Barcelona on Tuesday evening.

Spurs conceded an eye-watering 63 goals in the Premier League last season and improvements have to be made, we simply cannot go into the campaign with the likes of Davinson Sanchez being asked to play week in, week out.

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham’s pursuit of Wolfsburg centre-back Micky Van de Ven is currently not progressing.

Tottenham are said to have been left with the impression that the Bundesliga side do not wish to sell the centre-back but other sources allegedly believe the defender will be allowed to leave if there is a sufficiently big enough offer.

Spurs struggling to sign Micky Van de Ven

The outlet explains that the challenge for Tottenham or any other potential suitor is that Van de Ven signed a new deal just months ago and is contracted to Wolfsburg until 2027, which is why the German side are under no pressure to sell the player.

The Athletic add that agreeing personal terms with the 22-year-old is not an issue for Spurs, with the deal now depending on striking an agreement with Wolfsburg.

Spurs Web Opinion

It does appear as if Tottenham have now shifted their attention away from Van de Ven and Tapsoba, and towards a deal for Tosin Adarabioyo, if they can beat Monaco to him (FootMercato).

I still expect Spurs to go back in for either the Wolfsburg or the Leverkusen star, but perhaps the Lilywhites are first waiting for the Kane sale to go through first.

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Micky van de Ven has now emerged as Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role ahead of Edmond Taposba.

Tottenham appear to be making some real progress in their pursuit of Van de Ven, with Fabrizio Romano reporting a couple of days ago that Spurs are ‘advancing’ in talks with Wolfsburg over the centre-back, with the two clubs said to be ‘close’ to an agreement.

Micky van de Ven of VfL Wolfsburg runs with the ball

On Thursday, Football Insider even asserted that the Netherlands international had already agreed a five-year deal with the North London club, who are now confident of striking a deal with the Bundesliga side.

However, until last week, it had widely been reported that Edmond Tapsoba was Tottenham’s preferred choice for the left centre-back role, with Alasdair Gold telling Football.London that the Leverkusen star was seen by Spurs as a more ‘readymade’ choice than the Dutchman.

Micky Van de Ven is now Spurs’ top-choice target

Jones has claimed that the situation has now flipped, with Van de Ven being the one that the Lilywhites want.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “My understanding is that Tottenham’s preference has become Van de Ven, but it’s honestly not by much and I don’t feel like they would feel hard done by whichever player ended up coming through the door.

“It’s not going to be the only defensive signing that they make over the course of this window though.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It has been constantly reported for the past three weeks that we are ‘close’ to striking a deal for Van de Ven but there are no concrete signs of any progress.

The only explanation is that Spurs are waiting to see what happens with the Tapsoba pursuit, which would suggest that the Burkina Faso international is indeed the club’s first-choice target.

According to The Evening Standard, Tottenham are fearful of Liverpool hijacking their move for Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven.

Just a couple of days ago, it was suggested by German outlet Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (as relayed by Liverpool ECHO) that Spurs might have a free run at Van de Ven.

It was explained that following a dialogue between Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, the Reds decided to ‘cool their interest’ in the 22-year-old.

Football Insider even asserted on Thursday that Van de Ven had agreed on a five-year contract with the Lilywhites ahead of a potential transfer.

The report added that even though Spurs and Wolfsburg are still £5m apart in their respective valuations of the Dutchman, there is confidence at the North London club that they will get a deal over the line.

Tottenham still fearful of Liverpool approach

However, If The Evening Standard’s update is to be believed, Spurs remain fearful that Liverpool could make a late move to hijack their pursuit of the Wolfsburg star.

As a result, Tottenham are also said to be looking at other alternatives for the left centre-back role, including Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill, who is also thought to be rated highly by the Reds hierarchy.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham fear a late approach from Liverpool, they could accelerate their approach for Van de Ven rather than waiting to see if there is any progress on the negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for Edmond Tapsoba.

I would not be surprised if a deal for the Dutchman progresses rapidly over the next 48 hours.

Contrary to all the speculation doing the rounds over the last week, Wolfsburg managing director Marcel Schafer has insisted that the Bundesliga club are yet to receive any offers for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Micky van de Ven.

Multiple sources, including Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, have talked up the chances of van de Ven moving to Spurs recently.

Romano took to Twitter on Monday to report that Spurs were ‘advancing in talks’ with Wolfsburg over a deal for the centre-back and added that an agreement between the two clubs is now ‘close’.

Meanwhile, The Athletic had previously claimed that Tottenham were on the verge of reaching an agreement worth £30m with the German outfit for the Dutch Under-21 international.

No Spurs approach for van de Ven

The publication added that agreeing personal terms with the 22-year-old is not expected to be an issue for  Tottenham, who are continuing to revamp their squad under new head coach Ange Postecoglou.

However, Schafer has now insisted that not only have Spurs not bid for van de Ven but the player’s camp have also not communicated any desire to leave his current employer.

The Wolfsburg director told WAZ: “I follow the speculation. But not a single offer has landed on our desk. I have not spoken to him either. There is no reason to do so. I expect him back in Wolfsburg next week.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There have been many contradictory updates on Tottenham’s pursuit of van de Ven over the last week. I suspect that is due to the fact that Spurs have laid all the groundwork for a deal but have not made the final move just yet.

That could be because they are waiting to see if there would be any progress on their pursuit of Edmond Tapsoba.

Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to report that Tottenham are now ‘close’ to agreeing a deal for Micky Van de Ven with Wolfsburg.

Negotiations are said to be ‘underway’ with talks on Monday being ‘really positive’ between the two clubs. An agreement between Spurs and Wolfsburg on the price is said to be close.

This matches up with the recent The Athletic report which stated Spurs were getting closer to landing the young, Dutch central defender.

Van de Ven talks getting closer for Tottenham

However, Tottenham are also said to be interested in Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen (Alasdair Gold) and Romano previously reported it was a case of one or the other.

Despite his most recent claim, Romano also stated last week that Tapsoba was Tottenham’s top target for the centre-back role, but the deal depends on his price tag.

Now it appears Spurs are close to striking a deal for Van de Ven, with more news expected to follow.

Spurs Web Opinion:

It could be a case of getting the Ven de Ven deal in the bag and then working on Tapsoba some more to see if a good price can be agreed there – much like Paratici used to do at Spurs.

The thing that worries me is if Tottenham sign Van de Ven and Clement Lenglet to fix their centre-back problems, they may be in for a harsh awakening next season.

One newspaper from Germany, Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, has reported that Micky Van de Ven could stay at Wolfsburg for next season despite links to Tottenham Hotspur.

The report claims that despite interest from multiple clubs in the young, Dutch central defender, Wolfsburg have not yet received any firm offers.

Wolfsburg do not want to be without Van de Ven

It is also said that Wolfsburg want to try ‘with all their might’ to keep Van de Ven at the club for at least one more season in the Bundesliga.

The German club reportedly want £34m for their rapid centre-back, but the notion of taking him back on loan for the 2023/24 campaign is also mentioned, something that surely would not suit Tottenham who want to revamp their central defence this summer.

This comes after The Athletic claimed that Tottenham were closing in on Van de Ven’s signing.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I get the impression that Tottenham want Tapsoba and will spend the next week trying to get his price down.

If they feel that Bayer Leverkusen are asking for too much money, then they will turn to Van de Ven.

Just like most Spurs fans, I am asking ‘why not both?’
