Glenn Hoddle has said that he wishes Tottenham Hotspur had signed James Maddison a long time ago so that he could have played with Harry Kane.
Tottenham have had some great creative midfielders at the club over the years, with legends such as Hoddle and Paul Gascoigne being followed more recently in the Premier League era by the likes of Rafael Van de Vaart and Christian Eriksen.
Maddison is the latest addition to that list and the 26-year-old is well on his way to becoming a Spurs legend, having won over the fan base quite quickly.
While the modern game seems to be moving away from an old-fashioned number ten, the England international has shown that there is very much still room for a creative midfielder.
Hoddle dreams of Kane and Maddison at Spurs
After Maddison produced yet another impressive showing in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Liverpool, Hoddle admitted that he wishes the former Leicester City man would have linked up with Kane and Son years ago.
Game hasn’t changed that much really has it ! Wish James could have played with Harry and Sonny years ago 👍

Spurs Web Opinion
The current system that Spurs play under Postecoglou is ideal for Maddison as the 26-year-old is able to pick up the ball centrally in an advanced role, with runners on either side of him.
A player with his attributes is often played on the flank as part of a front three these days as most teams do not line up with a number ten.
As Hoddle suggests, Postecoglou has demonstrated that there is still room for a creative playmaker in the modern game as long as you have two workhorses such as Bissouma and Sarr mopping up behind him.
