Galatasaray’s deputy chairman Erden Timur has revealed that the Turkish giants had to wait until they got through the Champions League qualifying rounds before swooping for Tottenham duo, Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele.

Tottenham were not able to offload Sanchez and Ndombele before the European transfer deadline on September 2 but with Turkish clubs being allowed to sign players for two more weeks, both players ended up completing switches to Galatasaray.

While Sanchez joined the Istanbul side in a deal worth €9.5m (£8.1m), the Frenchman signed for the club on a season-long loan with the option to make it permanent for €15m (£12.8m).

The Colombian has made a promising start to life at the Turkish club, having already established himself as a mainstay in the backline but the same cannot be said for Ndombele, who has not made a single start yet this season (Transfermarkt).

Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk even admitted two weeks ago that the on-loan Tottenham man is ‘not in the best shape’ and is still working his way up to full fitness (Yenicag Gazetesi via  Sport Witness).

Spurs exits were all thanks to Champions League cash

Timur has now opened up on the double deal with Spurs, admitting that the club would not have had the finances for the operation if they had failed to qualify for the Champions League.

He told Fanatik: “In order to increase (our budget), we had to qualify for the Champions League. We had to keep the players waiting until that money arrived.

“If we had not qualified for the Champions League, we would not have been able to complete the signings of Davinson Sanchez and Ndombele.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Sanchez was a real coup for Galatasaray as despite his struggles at Spurs over the last couple of years, the Colombian is certainly good enough to play in one of the top five leagues. The Ndombele deal is also a good one for the Turkish club since there is barely any risk involved.

Davinson Sanchez has admitted that he found it difficult to cope with the amount of criticism that was levelled at him at times at Tottenham.

While Sanchez had not always been a regular in Tottenham’s starting eleven during his six-year spell at the club, he did deliver some crucial performances in big matches, particularly in his first few years in N17.

The Colombian did struggle at times over the last couple of years and was even booed off the pitch last season after coming on as a substitute, with the centre-back being taken off after just 23 minutes on the pitch due to the reaction from the supporters (talkSPORT).

The 27-year-old left the Lilywhites in the summer, completing a €9.5m (£8.1m) move to Galatasaray and has made a strong start to his time in Turkey.

Sanchez opens up on difficult times at Tottenham

Sanchez has now defended his international teammate, Luiz Diaz, who came in for plenty of criticism for missing a penalty in Colombia’s 0-0 draw with Ecuador, and he referred to his own struggles at Spurs while doing so.

The former Tottenham man told Gol: “There is no need to hide anything, ‘Lucho’ (Diaz) has been doing very important things in England. I suffered a lot when I was at Tottenham, but one way or another it is to take away that pressure that has indirectly been put on him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Sadly, modern-day football fans tend to scapegoat players and that is a tendency that has only risen in the age of social media. Sanchez was a victim of that at Spurs on several occasions, which is a shame considering that he always gave 100 per cent when he wore the shirt.

Football agent George Gardi has revealed that he forged a plan early in the summer for Galatasaray to sign both Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham Hotspur.

Sanchez made the move to the Turkish giants on a permanent basis in early September in deal worth £12.8m, while Ndombele also put pen to paper on a season-long loan deal which includes the option to join permanently.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou vowed shortly after joining Tottenham as the club’s new head coach that all players would be given a new opportunity to try to impress him (Mirror), however, Ndombele’s poor timekeeping issues and an injury in pre-season saw him made surplus to requirements once again (Guardian).

Sanchez was in the final year of his contract in North London after failing to justify the at-the-time club-record £40m fee that Spurs paid Ajax in 2017 and instead decided to make a fresh careeer start in Turkey (Sky Sports).

Agent reveals plans of double Spurs transfer exit

Gardi revealed that he had proposed the double signing of the Tottenham pair to Galatasaray even before the summer transfer window had opened.

He told TuttoMercatoWeb: “These players who have arrived are the fruit of work that started a long time ago.

“Sanchez and Ndombele were my proposals even before the start of the market. You have to consider that all clubs in Europe and around the world look to English clubs when looking for quality, bringing three players from elite Premier teams to Turkey is like climbing a mountain. I am proud that Galatasaray accepted my proposals.

“Ndombele, we are talking about a champion of Italy, on loan at zero with a partially covered wage; and Sanchez arrived permanently. Under these conditions, the competition from other clubs was fierce, hence my pride.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Sanchez’s time at Tottenham had run its course and it still has to be a priority that the club look to bring in another central defender in the winter transfer window to add some cover, should Cristian Romero pick up an injury.

Ndombele continues to be a burden on the Tottenham wage bill and the club will be counting down the days until his deal expires in 2025.

Alasdair Gold has compiled his regular roundup of all the Spurs players currently out on loan, including Tanguy Ndombele’s first start for Galatasaray, a couple of wins for Joe Rodon at Leeds United, and a match-winning goal for Troy Parrott.

The crop of first-team players at Tottenham Hotspur are flying high right now, with an eight-game unbeaten run at the start of the campaign. Ange Postecoglou’s side are now top of the Premier League table going into the international break.

While players like Heung-min Son, James Maddison, and Cristian Romero are flourishing in North London, there are a number of players still attached to the club who are plying their trade elsewhere this season.

Whether it be young players looking for valuable first-team experience, or fringe players attempting to prove their worth and secure a permanent move away from Tottenham, all the players out on loan right now have something to work towards.

How are the Spurs loanees performing this week?

In his loan report for Football.London, Alasdair Gold shares what the various Spurs loanees have been up to over the last week.

There was a “big moment” for Tanguy Ndombele this week, with the Frenchman starting for the first time for Galatasaray. He played 62 minutes against Antalyaspor, and also got a six-minute substitute appearance against Manchester United in the Champions League in midweek.

It’s Davinson Sanchez who is stealing the headlines out in Turkey, however. The former Spurs man bagged his first goal for Galatasaray in the 2-0 win over Antalyaspor, and registered two assists in the 3-2 win over Manchester United.

Joe Rodon is back from suspension, and getting praise once again for his performances in the heart of the Leeds United defence. The Welshman featured in back-to-back wins for the Championship side, against QPR and Bristol City, with LeedsLive describing him as “very solid.”

His teammate, Djed Spence, is still out injured for Leeds. As are both Sergio Reguilon at Manchester United, and Japhet Tanganga at Augsburg. The latter, however, is expected to be back in action later this month.

Moving on to the younger talent out and about gaining experience, Troy Parrott is having a great time out in Holland with Excelsior Rotterdam. The 21-year-old scored in back-to-back games recently, including a late winner in the Rotterdam derby, but he is still waiting for his first start.

Dane Scarlett, meanwhile, is having to be very “patient” at Ipswich Town. With the club “absolutely flying” in the Championship, the Spurs man is finding it difficult to break into the team, but did get a ten-minute cameo appearance in the win over Hull City in midweek.

And finally, Alfie Devine has been “drawing plenty of praise” during his time with League One outfit Port Vale. In midweek, the youngster started the game against Bristol Rovers but was replaced at half-time after picking up a yellow card.

Devine then got another 57 minutes under his belt after coming on as a substitute in the first half against Portsmouth, replacing an injured teammate for the defeat at Fratton Park.

Spurs Web Opinion

Plenty of positives this week, with both Joe Rodon potentially pushing himself closer to a permanent switch to Leeds, and Ndombele finally getting his first start.

Parrott continues to impress in the Netherlands and is doing his reputation no harm. But, I do worry about Dane Scarlett at Ipswich. If he doesn’t get a chance soon, we may have to reconsider that agreement.

Galatasaray deputy chairman Erden Timur has said the Turkish giants have shown that they are a major power to be reckoned with after the acquisitions of Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham Hotspur.

A little over a week ago, we relayed a report from the Milliyet which claimed that Spurs wanted as much as €22m (£18.8m) for the centre-back when Galatasaray first expressed their interest in the player before bringing their asking price down after the European transfer window closed.

Timur has now talked up the accomplishment of signing the duo from the North London club, insisting that their pair’s arrival significantly improves the reigning Super Lig champions.

Galatasaray are very pleased with their Spurs duo

The Galatasaray deputy chairman told Hurriyet: “The expectation and level rose so much that Ndombele, who played 40 matches last season when Napoli won the championship, most of them coming on as a substitute, arrived.

“The most expensive transfer in Tottenham history. For the first time in Turkish football history, such a squad was established. We have 13 players equal to Drogba, Sneijder and Melo.

“Ndombele was transferred to Tottenham for €62m. The highest-priced transfer in Tottenham’s history. Davinson Sanchez was transferred for €42m.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Galatasaray have done some excellent business this summer and with the likes of Sanchez and Ndombele in their ranks, they stand a fighting chance of getting out of their Champions League group, particularly given how poor Man Utd have looked this season.

Tottenham will be desperately hoping that Ndombele can do well over the course of the season and can convince the Turkish club to activate the option to buy him permanently.

A couple of days ago, we relayed a report from the Milliyet which claimed that Spurs wanted as much as €22m (£18.8m) for the Colombian when Galatasaray first expressed their interest in the player before bringing their asking price down to €16.5m (£14m).

The outlet explained that the Istanbul club got a big boost when the centre-back turned down a move to Bayer Leverkusen just before the transfer window closed, which meant that they were able to ‘win’ in the negotiation with Daniel Levy and sign the former Ajax man for a cut-price fee.

The report stated that it was during the negotiations over Sanchez that Galatasaray first enquired about Ndombele, with a deal for the Frenchman being concluded quite swiftly.

Galatasaray took advantage to get good Spurs deals

Timur has now admitted that the closing of the European transfer window last week was of big help to the club in getting the deals over the line.

The Galatasaray vice-president said (via Asist Analiz as translated by Sport Witness): “There were much more important opportunities for Ndombele four days ago, but when the transfer window closed, we took advantage. We thought we would not get Davinson either. We agreed on €9.5m + bonuses on the last day.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham certainly erred in Sanchez’s sale as the Colombian was evidently attracting quite a bit of interest from around Europe. Spurs might have been able to get a bigger fee for the 27-year-old had they sold him before last Friday’s deadline.

Turkish news outlet Milliyet have claimed that Galatasaray managed to secure a significant discount on the fee that Tottenham were initially demanding for Davinson Sanchez.

Spurs offloaded both Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele to Galatasaray on Monday, with the Turkish side paying €9.5m (£8.1m) for the former and signing the latter on loan with an option to buy for €15m (£12.8m).

Milliyet have now explained negotiating with Spurs for the centre-back was not easy, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy initially thought to have demanded €22m (£118.9m) for the Colombian.

The report states that the Istanbul club had no intention of paying such a fee, which is why Levy then lowered his asking price to €16.5m (£14.1m).

Galatasaray negotiated lower fee for Davinson Sanchez

It is said that Galatasaray then got a big boost as Sanchez turned down a move to Bayer Leverkusen close to deadline day, which eventually meant that the Turkish club got the 27-year-old for just around €9m (£8m), which is €13m (£11.1m) less than Spurs initially demanded.

The publication adds that Galatasaray vice-president Erden Timur came out as the ‘winner’ of the negotiations with the Tottenham supremo.

Finally, the outlet reveals that it was during the negotiations over Sanchez that Timur asked about Ndombele, with a deal for the Frenchman being concluded quickly between the parties ahead of the window closing.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Sanchez was evidently generating a lot of interest around Europe, none of those clubs were seemingly in a position to pay a sizable fee on the Colombian.

Galatasaray held all the cards once the centre-back stayed at N17 beyond last Friday’s deadline as Spurs could only sell him to clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia after that point.

After sealing a move to Galatasaray, Davinson Sanchez has taken to social media to admit that Tottenham will always have a special place in his heart.

The centre-back was widely backed to leave Tottenham throughout the summer (L’Equipe) but he stayed put beyond the closure of the European transfer window last Friday.

However, it was confirmed on Monday that the centre-back had sealed a switch to Galatasaray, with Turkish clubs being able to add players to their squad until September 18.

The Istanbul-based club, who have qualified for the group stages of the Champions League, have revealed that they will pay €9.5m (£8.1m) to the North London club for the 27-year-old’s services.

While Sanchez has not always been a regular in Tottenham’s starting eleven during his six-year spell at the club, he has delivered some crucial performances in big matches, particularly in his first few years in N17.

Davinson Sanchez bids farewell to Tottenham fans

The Colombian took to Twitter to say an emotional goodbye to the place he called home since 2017.

Spurs Web Opinion

Whatever one thinks of Davinson’s limitations as a player, he was a team man, who wore his heart on his sleeve and gave everything every single time he put the shirt on.

He also was not one to sulk or complain when he did not get opportunities, which is why he was valued highly by many different managers.

Takvim have suggested that the salary Davinson Sanchez has been handed at Galatasaray could cause some disharmony in the Turkish club’s dressing room.

Sanchez was linked with a whole host of clubs over the course of the summer but Colombian remained in N17 beyond last Friday’s European deadline.

However, Spurs have subsequently managed to offload both the centre-back and Tanguy Ndombele to Galatasaray, with the former moving in a deal worth €9.5m (£8.1m) while the latter has joined on loan with the option to make it permanent for €15m (£12.8m).

Sanchez’s arrival poses a problem at Galatasaray

Takvim have now reported that Sanchez will earn €3.2m (£2.7m) per year, which is considerably more than the other defenders at the club.

While some of Galatasaray’s other summer signings, including Ndombele, Wilfried Zaha and Hakim Ziyech are also on a high salary, it is explained that Sanchez’s wages pose a unique issue.

This is because last season’s star defenders, Victor Nelsson and Abdülkerim Bardakci, earn €1.3m (£1.1m) per year and €800k (£686k) per year respectively, while right-back Sacha Boey earns just €400k (£343k) per year.

The publication states that Sanchez’s arrival has thus created ‘significant deviations’ in the ‘salary balance within the team’, which is why it is feared that the 27-year-old’s signing ‘will cause trouble’ at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Sanchez was not going to accept a substantial wage cut to join Galatasaray, even though they are in the Champions League. So, the Turkish side were always going to have to pay him something close to the £3.3m per year he was earning at Tottenham.

Sanchez first signed for Tottenham back in 2017 for a then-club-record £42m (Guardian), but he never quite lived up to that price tag in North London despite some initially encouraging seasons under Mauricio Pochettino.

He leaves N17 after having made 207 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring five goals in that time (TransferMarkt), although his final kick for the club was a penalty miss in a Carabao Cup shoot-out against Fulham.

Ange Postecoglou now has Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ashley Phillips, Ben Davies, Eric Dier, and academy youngsters to choose from in his central defender ranks.

Spurs Web Opinion:

It never quite worked for Sanchez at Tottenham but you cannot fault his efforts in a Lilywhite shirt. No matter the criticism, he always tried to bounce back and give his all. Sometimes, it just isn’t meant to be. All the best, Davinson.

Fabrizio Romano has given his ‘here we go’ seal of approval to another Tottenham exit today, as Davinson Sanchez is getting closer to joining Galatasaray.

The Italian journalist says Spurs and Galatasaray have agreed a fee of between €10m and €15m with add-ons included, which is £8.55m – £12.8m.

Sanchez will sign with the Turkish club on a contract until 2027 and the medical will happen in Colombia over the next 24 hours, meaning he may well have played his last game for Spurs.

Unfortunately, this means his final kick in a Tottenham shirt will have been a crucial penalty miss in the Carabao Cup shoot-out exit to Fulham, but Sanchez leaves with lots of good memories from those early Pochettino years alongside Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele deals close

Romano confirms that Tanguy Ndombele to Galatasaray is also nearly a done deal.

Sanchez’s exit will leave Spurs with Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ashley Phillips, Ben Davies, Eric Dier, and academy youngsters as central defensive options until January.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Spurs 100% should have signed a new centre-back in the summer transfer window. However, I would much rather give minutes to Ashley Phillips, even if he makes mistakes, than see someone be given minutes even though we all know he doesn’t have a future at the club.

We wish Sanchez all the best for the future though, and thank you for many years of service.

The English transfer window may be closed, but it seems Tottenham Hotspur could still strike a deal to sell Davinson Sanchez this week. A new report claims Galatasaray are trying to sign the defender for €15m (£12.8m) before the registration deadline for the Champions League.

Despite a fairly successful summer transfer window for Tottenham, particularly when it comes to signing players, there is still work to be done. More specifically, the Lilywhites’ squad still contains a number of fringe players who need offloading.

It has long been suggested that Davinson Sanchez was not wanted by new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou. The general belief was that Sanchez would move on before the end of the transfer window (Express).

The Colombian defender has been linked with multiple clubs over the last few months, including PSV Eindhoven (Voetbal International), Villarreal (Relevo), Galatasaray (Sporx), and Spartak Moscow (Sport Express).

Galatasaray racing to sign Davinson Sanchez

The Turkish transfer window is still open until September 15, which means Galatasaray still have a chance of acquiring the 27-year-old. However, they need to get a deal done today if they are to register Sanchez for the Champions League.

A report from the Evening Standard details the prospective move and claims the Turkish giants are “close” to securing a permanent transfer worth “just shy of €15m (£12.8m)” for Sanchez.

Galatasaray are also looking to sign Sanchez’s Spurs teammate, Tanguy Ndombele, on loan. It is believed the Turkish side are “rushing to wrap up the moves” for both players today, ahead of the 11 pm deadline for Champions League registration.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is really encouraging news, and hopefully this strict deadline will force the moves through quickly. It still leaves us needing to replace the two players, but getting them out of our squad is the priority at this point.

Hopefully, once they are gone, we can look to move on Hugo Lloris, too, and then the outgoings this summer will have been fairly successful.

Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele are both the subject of ongoing talks between Tottenham Hotspur and Galatasaray, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It has been a busy summer for Tottenham and their new manager Ange Postecoglou. With nine signings made during the transfer window, it’s safe to say there is a new-look about the Spurs squad right now.

However, one complaint many Tottenham fans have now that the transfer window has shut, is that the club did not manage to sell enough of its surplus players.

As it stands aside from Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich, Harry Winks, Harvey White are the only peripheral squad members to transfer away permanently. Meanwhile, the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Joe Rodon, and Djed Spence have all left the club for respective loan moves.

Reports had suggested experienced players such as Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, and Tanguy Ndombele would also be sold this summer (Michael Bridge for Football Daily), but no such deals came to pass before Friday’s deadline.

Sanchez and Ndombele could still leave Spurs this summer

However, the Turkish transfer deadline is yet to close and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that both Sanchez and Ndombele could end up at Galatasaray before their deadline for deals slams shut on September 15.

He tweeted: “Negotiations continue today between Galatasaray and Tottenham for both Tanguy Ndombele and Davinson Sánchez — discussions advancing.”

Romano also mentioned Giovani Lo Celso in his latest update, stating: “Talks do not involve Gio Lo Celso, he’s expected to stay at Spurs. Decisions made 10 days ago.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Offloading both Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele would be great, and the club should definitely look to make that happen by any means possible. However, my one concern, particularly with Sanchez is, that we didn’t sign another centre-back during the window and could leave ourselves short of cover at the back.

That said, if we really needed to, we could give opportunities to the likes of Ashley Phillips and Alfie Dorrington.

Multiple sources are now reporting that Davinson Sanchez is close to completing a move to Galatasaray.

Tottenham failed to offload some of their unwanted players before Friday night’s European transfer deadline, with the likes of Sanchez, Eric Dier, Tanguy Ndombele and Hugo Lloris still at Hotspur Way.

However, some of those players could depart N17 within the next two weeks, with Turkish clubs being able to sign players until September 15.

Over the last couple of days, there have been suggestions that Galatasaray are exploring moves for Ndombele (Lyall Thomas) and Giovani Lo Celso (Fabrizio Romano).

Davinson Sanchez to Galatasaray move is now close

It has now emerged that the Turkish giants are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Sanchez.

Journalist Rudy Galetti has taken to social media to claim the deal to take the Colombian to RAMS Park is ‘almost’ done. He asserted that the final details of the transfer are being discussed, with a full agreement expected soon.

Meanwhile, Sports Digitale journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu has asserted that Sanchez’s representative will travel to Istanbul soon to complete contract negotiations with Galatasaray.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is the right move by Tottenham as Sanchez has only a year left on his contract and he is simply not good enough on the ball to even be a squad player for Postecoglou’s Spurs. The club will be hoping that they are also able to convince Ndombele to make a switch to Turkey.

L’Equipe have claimed that Rennes have now launched a second offer for Davinson Sanchez after their opening bid was turned down by Tottenham.

It appears as if Sanchez is attracting quite a bit of interest from Ligue 1 in the latter stages of the transfer window, with Gianluca Di Marzio revealing on Thursday that Monaco were pushing hard to sign the centre-back.

The journalist claimed that the Colombian’s agent had flown to London to try and finalise a transfer for the defender.

Rennes back in the race for Davinson Sanchez

If L’Equipe’s latest update is to be believed, Rennes have now returned with a second offer of around €12m (£10.2m) for Sanchez.

The outlet explains that while Tottenham demanded €20m (17m) for the former Ajax man just a few days ago, the club are now ‘more inclined’ to sell the player for a cheaper fee since they wish to offload him before tonight’s 11 pm deadline.

The publication adds that Sanchez has given the green light to join Rennes and is ready to travel to France for his medical as soon as the two clubs strike a deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Sanchez and Tanganga looking likely to seal moves away and with Dier potentially to follow, one can argue that Tottenham will need to bring in two centre-backs through the door before the 11 pm transfer deadline.

It is a little worrying that there seems to be no progress on any deal for a central defender at the moment but we know that things can progress quite quickly on deadline day.

Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that AS Monaco are now pushing to sign Davinson Sanchez.

Unfortunately, it looks like Sanchez’s missed penalty in the Carabao Cup second-round tie against Fulham on Tuesday could be the Colombian’s final kick in a Tottenham shirt, with the centre-back widely tipped to leave the club before Friday night’s transfer deadline.

Over the last 24 hours, several outlets have continued to suggest that Spurs are looking to use the 27-year-old as a potential makeweight in a deal to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest (Times).

Monaco now make advances to sign Sanchez

Di Marzio has taken to social media to state that Monaco are now ‘pushing’ to land Sanchez before the transfer window shuts.

The journalist revealed that the former Ajax star’s agent is now in London to negotiate a move away for his client.

Monaco’s desire to land Sanchez could also impact Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Tosin Adarabioyo, with various reports over recent days indicating that the Ligue 1 side were favourites to beat Spurs to the Fulham star (Daily Mail).

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems like there is now finally some movement on the futures of Sanchez, Dier, Ndombele and Hojbjerg. However, as things stand, there are not too many indications that Reguilon and Lloris are close to sealing a move away from Spurs.

The club certainly have their work cut out in getting the aforementioned players out of the door and bringing a couple in before tomorrow night’s deadline.

Dutch reporter Rik Elfrink has revealed that PSV Eindhoven are expected to push for a late deal to sign Davinson Sanchez.

Over the course of the summer transfer window, Sanchez has been linked with the likes of Villarreal (Relevo), Galatasaray (Sporx), and Spartak Moscow (Sport Express), but with a little over 24 hours left until the window slams shut, it is far from certain where the Colombian will go.

Reports continue to suggest that the 27-year-old, who has one year left to run on his contract with Spurs, could be used by the North London club as a makeweight in the deal to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest (The Times).

PSV now an option for Davinson Sanchez

Elfrink has now taken to social media to reveal that PSV enquired about Sanchez earlier this week but were put off by Tottenham’s asking price for the centre-back.

The journalist adds that the Eredivisie giants are keen on strengthening their backline before Friday night’s transfer deadline and are thus expected to ‘keep pushing’ for the former Ajax star.

Spurs Web Opinion

The only reason I can think of as to why Sanchez is still at Tottenham is that the Lilywhites feel there is a genuine chance of the Colombian being included in a deal to sign Johnson.

If Forest had not shown interest in the 27-year-old, I suspect Spurs would have already sold him to a club outside the Premier League.

It seems Tottenham Hotspur may end up keeping hold of Davinson Sanchez this summer after all, and the club are now in no rush to sell the player, unless they receive improved offers.

Davinson Sanchez was one of the main scapegoats in a poor campaign for Tottenham last season, especially in the wake of the humiliating 6-1 defeat against Newcastle United in April. The Colombian received abuse from Spurs supporters in the subsequent game against Bournemouth.

All signs pointed to the defender being one of the first players to be shipped out of the club this summer, as new manager Ange Postecoglou looked to put his own stamp on his squad.

Over the course of the summer, Sanchez has been linked with an array of different clubs, including PSV Eindhoven (Voetbal International), Villarreal (Relevo), Galatasaray (Sporx), and Spartak Moscow (Sport Express).

Will Davinson Sanchez stay at Spurs?

His latest suitors are French side Rennes, but a bid of €9m (£7.7m) has now been rejected by Tottenham. That’s according to The Athletic, who claim Spurs are now looking for a higher offer for the centre-half, and it is suggested the club may even be happy to retain Sanchez.

Charlie Eccleshare shared the latest update, and said: “Spurs have rejected €9m bid from Rennes for Davinson Sanchez – they want between €15-20m (£12.9-17.1m).

“If he goes they would want to bring in a replacement. In less of a rush to sell now that Sanchez has established himself under Postecolou as a viable back-up.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Personally, I would be happy to sell Sanchez for around £10m if an offer comes in. However, if Ange trusts him, then I trust that judgement. I guess it’s better to keep hold of a player we know all about, rather than rushing into signing a replacement before the window shuts.

L’Equipe claim that Rennes submitted an offer to Tottenham Hotspur for Davinson Sanchez, with just days left of the summer transfer window.

The report states that Rennes are keen to add a central defender to their squad before Friday evening’s transfer deadline and have been exploring ‘several avenues’ over the last few days.

However, the French club have now settled on Sanchez as their top target and have made a ‘concrete’ step towards signing the Colombian. It is alleged that Rennes offered €9m (£7.7m) to Tottenham for the 27-year-old.

Tottenham want more money for Davinson Sanchez

The outlet explains that Spurs are thought to value the defender at around €10m-€15m (£8.5m-£12.8m).

Over the past 48 hours, multiple publications have also suggested that Sanchez could head to Nottingham Forest as a part of the deal to bring Brennan Johnson to Tottenham (Times).

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham will be hoping to get around £10m or above for Sanchez this summer, given the amount of interest the Colombian seems to be generating around Europe.

The fact that Spurs have not yet sold the 27-year-old perhaps indicates that there is a genuine chance of the centre-back being used as a makeweight in a deal for Johnson.

The Athletic have revealed that while Tottenham remain the clear favourites to land Brennan Johnson, Nottingham Forest expect the deal to drag on until quite late in the transfer window.

On Monday, The Times claimed that Spurs were edging closer to agreeing a deal for Johnson after opening talks with Forest over the 22-year-old.

The outlet asserted that Forest expect the Lilywhites to meet their £50m valuation of the player before Friday night’s transfer deadline.

Spurs’ first offer for Brennan Johnson was rejected

The Athletic have now stated that while Tottenham are in pole position to secure Johnson’s services, Forest already turned down a player plus cash offer from the North London club for the Wales international earlier this summer.

It is revealed that Spurs offered £20m plus Davinson Sanchez in exchange for the forward, and were also willing to include other players in the deal, but Forest did not find the offer to be satisfactory.

With Steve Cooper’s side said to have concerns over falling foul of FFP rules, they are expected to cash in on Johnson if their valuation is met over the coming days.

However, the report alleges that Forest expect Tottenham to leave the deal quite late, as is Daniel Levy’s preference.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would not have included Sanchez in their initial offer if Forest had not shown an interest in the Colombian. With the 27-year-old still remaining at Spurs despite attracting plenty of interest from around, there remains a big chance that he will indeed head to the City Ground as part of the Johnson deal.
