The Tottenham players pushed Rodrigo Bentancur to the front of the group during post-match celebrations at Selhurst Park so the Uruguayan could take in the accolade from the travelling supporters after making his first appearance in eight months.

It has been a long and arduous road back for Bentancur since he suffered an ACL injury back in February against Leicester City.

While the midfielder had been back in full training over the last two weeks, it was reported as recently as a few days ago that he was not expected to play until next month (The Standard).

To many people’s surprise, the 26-year-old was named on the bench for the clash against Crystal Palace and he was brought on by Postecoglou in the 90th minute with Tottenham 2-0 up.

Everyone at Spurs is happy to have Bentancur back

Although the away side had to endure some nervy minutes towards the end after the home side pulled one back, they managed to hold on to the lead and emerge with all three points.

There were some touching scenes after the full-time whistle as the Tottenham players were clearly over the moon for Bentancur on his return and were keen for him to take in the accolade from the fans.

Bentancur’s return is huge for Postecolgou as it gives him another world-class option in the middle of the park. The fact that we are playing so well means that the Uruguayan can be eased back into the fold over the next few weeks so that he can slowly build up his match fitness.
