The situation is exactly the reverse for Etete, who had a slow start to his spell at Northampton Town. However, since opening his account for the League Two club last month, the 19-year-old has been on fire in front of goal.

The striker got a goal and an assist in Saturday’s FA Cup first round 2-2 draw at home to Carlisle, taking his tally to four goals in all competitions this campaign.

The Northampton Chronicle gave him the Man of the Match award for his performance on Saturday.

Serin has now admitted that he wanted to ensure the Senegal international was loaned back to Metz as he wanted him to play in front of the fans at the Stade Saint-Symphorien.

He told Graoully Mag on Moselle TV (as relayed by Sport Witness): “The cherry on top is that we can keep him for an extra year with us.

“I was very attached to that idea because, in the end, with the matches being played in empty stadiums last year, the fans hadn’t seen him.

“Therefore, the fact of transferring him without the fans being given a chance to see him, that hurt me, and so I insisted to have him for a year and I’m very satisfied that we have him for 2021-22 season”.

The Metz president also insisted that the club can be happy with the fee they got for Sarr, considering his lack of experience at the top level.

He added: “Obviously, we always wish to get more, but he’s still a kid who has played very few games in Ligue 1, who turned 18 on September 14th 2020, and we’re talking about a transfer when he’s not even 19.

“So, in the end, when I look at the transfer fee plus the bonuses that we can get when he plays for Spurs, I think we can be satisfied.”

Spurs acquired the talented 19-year-old midfielder over the summer in what was a relatively low-key and understated move. 

He was sent back on loan to Ligue 1 side Metz for the season to gain consistent minutes and continue his development. 

Gold has provided his weekly update on the Spurs players currently out on loan, and picked out Sarr’s performances as ones to look out for. 

He played 72 minutes in a central midfield position as Metz recorded their first win of the season, beating Brest 2-1 on Sunday. 

Sarr led the side with a 75 per cent pass accuracy while managing to play four successful long balls out of five. 

The defensive side of his game also shone through at the weekend, where he won three of four aerial duels, registered two tackles and two interceptions. 

The Senegalese midfielder has also displayed his versatility this season, which saw him deployed in a more defensive role against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. 

Sarr played the full 90 minutes against Mauricio Pochettino’s side and had to contend with the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Danilo Pereira and Rafinha in the middle of the park. 

Despite a late goal from Achraf Hakimi to hand the PSG a 2-1 win, Sarr didn’t look afraid to take the game to the French giants during the proceedings. 

In a game in which Metz were not expected to dominate possession, Sarr again led the team with 30 accurate passes coming to a 77 per cent success rate. 

His performances over the last week have helped Metz rise off the foot of the Ligue 1 table to 18th position, after failing to win any of their opening seven games.

It seems strange that a medical would have been complete before personal terms. In fact, personal terms are also usually done before or alongside the fee negotiations so I’m not sure I quite believe those details. £25.7m also seems rather high.

It was reported earlier this evening that Spurs were on the verge of reaching a deal with the Ligue 1 outfit, with the 18-year-old likely being loaned back to Metz.

Diallo sounds like the most realistic target for us, with Metz ready to sell and the striker seemingly ready to join. The deal for the likes of Milik and Daka look much more complicated based on recent reports but it remains to be seen who we go for.

Whoever Mourinho’s priority is, it would be of great help if Levy can get a deal completed early as we are going to need another striker in order to cope with the fixture schedule we have at the start of the season.
