Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte will assess Pape Matar Sarr during pre-season before deciding whether to loan the midfielder out.
Spurs signed Sarr from Metz last summer for £14.5m (Daily Mail) and then loaned the midfielder back to the Ligue 1 club.
The midfielder had an impressive 2021/22 campaign, showcasing his versatility by featuring in a variety of midfield roles but despite his best efforts, he was not able to save the club from relegation.
Sarr is expected to report to training at Hotspur Way this summer, 12 months on from signing for the North London club.
With Tottenham adding Yves Bissouma to their midfield ranks, which already consist of the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Oliver Skipp, the teenager will have plenty of competition to contend with.
Gold has now revealed that Conte will assess Sarr and decide whether the youngster would be better off adapting to life in England during the first half of the season, with the Italian said to be keen on having a big squad.
The journalist explained that alternatively, Conte could decide that the best thing for the 19-year-old’s development would be to head out on loan to a league with similar physical demands to the Premier League.

Given that Spurs are also expected to sign an attacking midfielder this summer, I expect Sarr to be loaned out. I think Tottenham could look to loan him to a Ligue 1 club for the first half of the season before potentially exploring a loan move to the Championship or the lower end of the Premier League during the second half of the campaign.
