According to the print edition of Marca (as relayed by Sport Witness), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is ‘doing everything’ in his power to join Atletico Madrid but the Spanish club have not been able to strike an agreement with Tottenham so far.
A few days ago, we relayed a report from AS (12/08 via Sport Witness), which claimed that Hojbjerg’s proposed move to Atletico is being delayed by the La Liga side’s inability to offload their unwanted players.
it was explained that the Rojiblancos would have to sell at least two players before making a move for the Tottenham man if they are to not fall foul of the FFP regulations.
Hojbjerg desperate for the move to Atletico Madrid
Marca have now stated that the Spurs midfielder is ‘crazy’ about moving to the Metropolitano Stadium and is doing all he can from his end to ensure the transfer materials.
Hojbjerg is said to be keen to play in the Champions League, which he will get a chance to do at Atletico. However, the outlet adds that the offer made by the Colchoneros has not convinced Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy so far.
The report does go on to add that the two clubs share a good relationship, which is why there is still a ‘certain optimism’ at Atletico that a deal for Hojbjerg can be agreed before the transfer window closes.
Spurs Web Opinion
I fully expect Levy to give Atletico a clear deadline, beyond which the deal will be called off as Tottenham would have to secure a replacement for the Dane if he leaves. Given Atletico’s current financial position, I would not be surprised if this transfer collapses.
