Spurs striker Harry Kane has targeted 100 Premier league goals by the end of next season after winning the Golden Boot for two years straight.
The England international, who scored 7 goals in Tottenham’s last two games of the season, put a target on reaching the 100 Premier League goal status by the end of the 2017/18 season. Kane gave himself this goal in the same week Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino challenged the 23 year old to break the 30 goal barrier next season. Kane said:
“It would be a fantastic achievement.”
“I said to someone the other day it would be great if I can get to that 100 club by the end of next season.”
“The biggest thing I’m proud of is that I had two big injuries and was out for 11 weeks so to still be there at the top of the Premier League and to score 30-plus goals [in all competitions] is a big achievement.”
Kane, despite missing three months of football scored 35 goals in just 38 matches and is well on course to achieving his goal, should his form continue. Only 26 other footballers in Premier League history have joined the famous 100 goal club, yet former Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy had a warning for the forward about managing his work-load. Murphy said:
“The biggest strength of Kane is his mental strength.”
“Ability-wise he can do it. But he plays with such passion and energy, so to play every game, season in season out, will take a toll.”
“He is a big powerful boy, but he puts so much in.”
I, personally, don’t see a problem with Kane’s work-rate. He’s been injured a lot this season, yet it was his hard work that saw him rise and recover from those injuries and still claim the Golden Boot award.
Do you think Kane can go on to beat Shearer’s goal-scoring exploits?
